:IBCOOL:  Killer man! Congrats. You have certainly put in your time over the last couple of years. We're all dying to hear the story!
-
 Congrats :IBCOOL:
-
Is it okay to give our dog one of the deer hooves? Online search says it's safe for them to eat raw bone and all. Some things say freeze it to kill off bacteria, others say just give it to the dog fresh. He wants it soooooo bad lol.
-
The blood looks real good! Can't be to far now....
-
The dogs I know have done well with fresh legs......never had an issue.
Wheres the PICS!!
-
I gave my lab a deer leg once...just once.....he threw it all up..that was not fun

First off, congrats! Can't wait to see pics of actual deer and hear more story....
Feeing raw deer and bone to animals just depends on the animal. I have one dog that can't eat a ton and have no issue. Another can eat a few small bites as a treat, but any more is just too rich and things get messy. My dogs and even cats seem to love fresh venison like nothing else. Give a little and see how the dog handles it. A bone or hoof without a lot of meat or hide would be a good start. I save just about all of the deer I can, cut away any usable meat for hamburger, and save the rest as dog treats in the freezer. But only for the one dog...
-
Smossy and Jeremiah with no phone pictures? I'm not so sure I'm believing this thread :chuckle:
-
Maybe.....maybe I've seen pics. Not saying I have....but if I have....I'd go out on a limb and says its a nice healthy tasty looking critter.
-
Great job. Happy for you. Enjoy!

Pics or it didnt happen.

Think this is a hoax. :chuckle:
-
Hang tight....I've got something here.........

Lol a few photos went out to good friends, then the rest of the HW family has to wait alittle until I get home. It was a very exciting day to say the least. I dont think a small reply and single photo would justify what happened that do so you guy's just gotta be patient. It was no monster by any means and It was only a doe. But its going to be some good eating for the next few months.
-
Here we go....I think he would agree that this is a good one to post.
:chuckle:
-
I thought the Amish kept the dirt off their upper lip!
-
He's obviously trying to look like a grown up!
-
Hey someone stole me lucky charms :chuckle:
A doe is nothing to complain about, heck they are a smaller target than a buck... :archer:
-
YA BUDDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :whoo: Congrats man! We all know how hard you prepared and worked for this moment!
-
BBQ at Smossy's, tonight at 6:00. Let's go!
By the way. Raw bones for your dog are fine; in fact, much better than boiled bones (boiled bones are actually dangerous). As the others have said, some dogs handle them well, and others just vomit them out immediately. There is no way to guess, just try it once. Start with a smaller piece.
Congratulations. You have worked hard for this.
-
The dogs I know have done well with fresh legs......never had an issue.
Wheres the PICS!!
:yeah: Congrats Smossy

I think he just tried to cut his hand off again and took a pic of the carnage on the ground! Pics :dunno:

Are we really sure something hit the dirt? I'm just not convinced.
-
Yep
-
PICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!? Nothing wrong with a doe Smossy. I stuck my first deer last year. A Muley Doe and I'd do it again this year in a heartbeat if given the opportunity.
-
Come on smossy.....

This is the best I can do for now.
If you look closely on the hanging pic you can see where I did some of the damage, It was a 60 yard shot and she started walking right as I released.
Managed to hit back quite a ways and went through both large arteries in the thigh's and broke bone on both sides.
As she started to run off somehow a follow up arrow magically was nocked and I was taking a second shot as she ran off, no contact was made though.
I was just entirely grateful that we found it 30-40 minutes later and It was already lights out. I felt bad once I seen it was in the leg and had already started to beat myself up.
It ran from some old reprod and went straight for the timberline where the fun began, We found a nice blood trail once we figured out where it had entered.
Managed to get quite a few bubbly blood puddles about basketball size in the beginning. Over another 130 yards or so through some of the thickest timber I've been in; the blood started dwindling down to a softball size patches, then golf ball, then to just drops here and there.
If It wasnt for the bloodhound we had with us (MLBowhunting) who Ill forever be grateful for taking me out and showing me all the things he did, from gutting - to skinning, to trailing blood and bonding with strangers.
We may have lost the trail, He decided to venture off about another 80 yards in some random direction, after about 7 minutes of coming to the realization that I just lost my doe - We hear a whistle... Sure enough he was back on the trail, a really faint trail at that. :dunno:
We all managed to get together and kind of just took in what was going on and try to figure out what direction she may had ran in, I look over (MLBowhuntings) shoulder and there she was, laying on her side - Just waiting for me to Tag and bag all 100lbs of her :chuckle: - Everyone turned around and at the moment all you could hear was whooping and celebration.
It was a great time and a great experience. I owe thanks to everyone that was there and to everyone on here that has helped me along the way. The first ones special.

Thanks everyone. Still enjoying the fruits of my labor. Cant say that I worked too hard for this one being the opportunity was placed infront of me and even with taking a bad shot i still managed to take her home. Big thanks goes out to Mlbowhunter and Radsav. Both who have been a huge help over the last two years. And thanks to everyone else who have been encouraging ever since I joined.
