Title: Farewell my friend!
Post by: bearpaw on September 15, 2014, 05:42:03 PM
One of our best hounds "Tucker" has gotten too old, I can't tell you how many bear and lions he has treed for my son and I, but the last few years he has been going steadily downhill. Two years ago he made two lion chases, last year he made one chase and that left him tired for the rest of the season. Now that the weather is cooling off he's not doing well and getting skinnier every week no matter how much we feed him. I can't bear the thought of him suffering through colder weather. As hard as it was I had to make an appointment with the vet. It brings tears to my eyes every time I think about our many hunts and good times with this great dog.

Farwell my friend, you will not be forgotten!   :(

One time we lost Tuck and two other dogs for 3 days in big country, one of the guys finally found them, they were still treed on a lion. One dog was bedded down, Tuck and the 3rd dog were still treeing.

Stories are the best way to memorialize our friends. Why? So that other may know them as you did, and their memory lives on.

I know nothing of hounds so tell us a story that shows the exceptional-ism of him. (Or go into greater detail about this event...

I'm on those ropes with a lamed up female, my first dog whos going down hill quick. Sucks loosing a dog and especially the good ones. I wish all the time that dogs live as long as we do, because you just can't replace the same dog

Sorry to hear. Many years ago in Idaho we had one dog that was gone and on day 3 of driving over and back my uncle turned on his directional tracker?? (Sure there's a name here I'm not remembering) 50 miles away in Spokane ,and got some beeps many many miles from where he was last seen. Out on the freeway spinning circles dodging traffic lol. Followed it threw the streets and He ended up at someone's house demanding his dog... They promptly brought it out with its new collar and name tag. Lots of good times and memories chasing them dogs!!

:'(   Sorry Dale.   I wish that there was something to say, but since I have tears and I don't even know Tuck, its got to be in all of us that have had such a good friend or hunting buddy to know what its like.   Tough and responsible call.  He'll make an impact on the rest of your life when you are out on a trail or cold windy ridge with snow going down the back of your neck, you will remember your friend.

Sorry for the loss of your hunting buddy Dale.  I have lost a couple that still sting.  Were you able to get any pups off of him?  Hunting with any of his sons or daughters?

There are dogs then there are those so very special dogs that steal a part of our heart and are never forgotten. Sorry to hear Dale I always read the Rainbow Bridge Poem about dogs and it seems to make me feel better hoping he is not hurting anymore and you did the right thing for him. Memories last a life time.
