Looks like we will get the first real snow of the year this weekend. I am excited to officially open my 'yote season. There are a ton of song dogs around and the first snow is always the best!!!! Anybody else heading out? Sage/Gutpile, wanna join forces on the coyote competition on here????
-
I might head out Sunday morning before my wife goes to work.
-
Absolutely!!!!!!!!! I'm headed out this weekend too. Can't wait. See if MHWASH wants to join too. My buddy Bighorns2Bushytails will want to as well.
As far as sage goes, he's a mysterious bird. I keep trying to hook up with him but have been unsuccesfull so far. :dunno: :chuckle: :dunno: :chuckle:
You from Spokane???
-
I'm heading out to do some scouting and take pics, should be a good weekend.
-
I am from Colfax. Went out on my Granparents' farm on Thanksgiving morning and counted 13 'yotes (6 in one group). We were muzzleloader hunting so we left them alone. Did end up killing one with a smokepole, though! I haven't even touched our River or Winona places, yet! Should be a great weekend - more 'yotes than I have seen the last two years! I will hunting between the river and Revere.
-
Colfax huh? Do you know MH? He's from there too. I spend a lot of time down that way. Maybe we'll hook up sometime.
-
No, I don't know him. He is quite a bit older than me, though. Good luck this weekend!
-

You ok Rick? Hope so!!
I wonder if the yotey hunting will be slow this weekend if we get hammered with the snow AND wind like they are calling for. I bet you Mon and Tues the dogs will be hunting hard. Brrrrrrrrrr

Yeah, Monday and Tuesday do look good. Cold an clear skies (and hopefully snow cover). I may have to take a couple vacation days. When I was at Eastern, I had a hard time making it to class when the snow was coming down!

I kind of suck this year dont I? Been out three times. Called one in on the first set of the first hunt and I get I hit him bad with the .223 :dunno: I heard the report but he took off and made it to some deep CRP and I couldn't find it. >:( I've about had it with that damn rifle gonna give it another go, I loaded up a smoking 60 grn rounds and if it doesn't start knocking them with authority I'm retiring it. Then I went out with Bighorns2Bushytails last Saturday and had two groups that hung up in the trees and wouldn't show themselves. We were hoping for a bobcat that day but struck out. Then went out once again on some new ground I found and called one up but it hung waaaaaay out at about 800 yards and sat on the horizon looking at me. Thats it for me but the season is far from over. I'm really excited for the cold weather. Sure hope we get some snow.
I'm in a derby this weekend on some good ground that has been productive so I should be able to get something started. I can't wait to get that 220 swift out there, if it shoots as good as my 22-250 there will be some dead yoties out there this year.
MH - Sage - JJ If you guys can get out during the week let me know. I'm going to take advantage of the cold and get out at least twice. Maybe we can get together and scrape up a couple.
-
I'm going to go out sat morning and try my luck, I havent been out for a long time. :'(

Gutpile, I won't be able to go next week, but I will have a majority of the last half of December and the second half of January off. What derby are you in? The ones I know of are usually in January. My goal is 6 dogs this weekend! Good luck.

Bones what a perfect opp for a great anniversary present. Take her out and teach her how to call dogs for you to shoot. its a win , win situation. :chuckle: :chuckle:

I finally have been paroled, but I think it is going to be real tough on Sunday. Like Machias said, bitter cold and high wind makes for tough calling.

-
Just got back, saw a nice dark coyote on the way in at 560yrds. 24 deg, snowing and wind was at least 20 mph with gusts twice that. We did 4 sets and quit. Too much wind for calling, was getting drifts across the roads also. Maybe tomorrow.
-
No luck this after noon to much wind :(
-
today was terrible, this morning there had to of been 40 mile an hour winds, and between 6:00am to 8:00 am we got 6 inches of snow, it was a nasty... i got out to the spot and realized im wasting my time.
-
Heading out in a few for a derby. Looks like its still windy. Gonna be a tough day. Hope it works out.
-
Just got home. No luck today. It was windy and frigid.
-
cant wait for monday gutpile! howd ya do in the wind and cold today?? hopefully itll be just cold and not windy monday. hoping you got atleast 1 dog to put you on the boards for your tourney. get ahold of me this evening after you defrost. did u use the 22-250 or the 220 swift for yer tourney?
-
I had the same conditions as you guys.....tough with the wind. I didn't even try calling. I only went out for a couple hours on Saturday and killed one coyote. The "Palouse Posse" is on the board at least. I switched gears and grabbed my shotgun - managed to shoot 6 roosters around the house yesterday and today.
-
didnt try to call, but i went out driving. the only yotie i saw was along the driveway. popped'em, he rolled got up and ran. never saw'em again. didnt even try calling, 10 degrees, 20-25 mph winds.....COLD!
-
I'm kind of glad I didnt go out today it was only 14 at noon and that was in town. I deicided it was best to stand by the fire today :camp:
-
After being stuck in the house and plowing snow, I just had to get out for some quiet time today. Went out for a couple hours this afternoon. Saw lots of deer, but no predators. At least I won't be second guessing all week weather I should have gone out or not.
-
Well.............................. It was cold.
Actually had a good time but hunted sunup to sundown and struck out. Sort of. I called in a double at noon and of course they came running in from downwind. These dogs were hauling ass and pissed. The male was hackled up and ready for a fight. The female suddenly got my wind and peeled off and disappeared the male kept coming. He was close, 50ish yards. Anyways I barked like hell to get him to stop and he wouldn't. THEY ALWAYS STOP!!! :bash: :bash: :bash: I was running out of time and started popping off shots and couldn't connect. What a crummy day. WAAAAAAAAAAY too windy for calling. :'(
-
went out this morning for a few stands... didnt see anything except lots of tracks. wind wasnt to bad till bout noon. wish these coyotes were more cooperative ;)
-
We made 11 stands and finally saw our first coyote at 3:15 pm on the 10th stand. Partner missed a standing 20 yard shot, after he tried pulling the trigger with his safety on. Then he got anxious and rushed a shot with his scope up on 9 power. One coyote would have split the pot. Too bad for us. The wind made it near impossible conditions. If it wasn't for our contest I would have been snuggling with the wife in my nice warm bed instead of busting snow drifts to chase coyotes. Sorry Huntwa Prostaff, I'll tackle them again over Christmas.
