Title: HELP HELP No really sum help would be nice
Post by: teegansdad on September 19, 2014, 08:28:01 PM
I am finally on here to ask for some help!! I have this false illusion that im some great hunter. Well that is not turning out that way so i have spent 6 years hunting elk with no luck i always see lots of elk but no legal bulls. Ive been trying to hit that multi season tag which i got this year.  i spent the archery season in the ryderwood unit counted 62 elk in the last seven days of the season over half with hoof rot and all the bulls were spikes. No legal bulls and NO and i mean NO talking any where so im faced with the muzzy opener with no time to scout ( Im a union boilermaker so work while u can ) Im not looking for your seceret hole or wallow im not looking for a farmerws field or an easy road hunt. Im just looking for some one nice enough to turn me on to an area that holds elk for muzzy perfer west side but not limited too. like maybe a trailhead to hike or maybe someone is going solo and dosent mind having a partner. I want to fill freezer i dont care about horns. they are nice but i cant eat em. If you can help PM me i dont mind blood sweat and tears for my meat. its just my area is no longer any good. well it never was really but :)

The bulls your not seeing are going to be close to those cows. Hunt the cows during rut. You will find bulls  :twocents:

Luckily you don't have to even worry about the rack, muzzy is mostly spike only. Don't think your going to get any sympathy around here, 6 years waiting, you're not even getting warmed up. Sounds to me tho you'll fit right in as an elk hunter, most of us are to dumb to know when to quit.   :chuckle:

You will have a better shot at a legal bull down there during muzzy.  The hot weather we had for bow did not help.  I would keep at it down there.  Have you touched base with security down there on the tree farm? They usually have a rough idea of how many bulls came out during archery.  If that number was low, your probably looking at some good odds for muzzy. I know in the past that has been the case with the hot weather factor.

If you are not bugling to locate bulls, and then working cow calls to get them in close combined with some bugling, that may be part of the issue of not finding shooters too.   :twocents:

My buddy hunts that unit and they get into them often during muzzy...I'd go back for it since you know the area somewhat and just get out after them..put some distance between you and the road, shouldn't have to go to far.  They've said that the bulls really start getting after it during that time frame. I don't hunt the wet side.
