Well the game cop certainly doesnt convey it to be that serious of a crime either.

That sentence is very disappointing.  It certainly doesn't send a good message about NOT poaching an animal.    >:(  What happened to the increased fine for poaching "trophy" sized game?

Its amazing to me that that is all they got, especially after they were so "proud" about it when talking to the Game Warden. Great job guys killing the neighborhood pet! It really chaps me that their punishment was so light. When I was 14 I accidentally killed a doe that I thought was a spike during the late buck hunt and rather then keeping it my dad contacted the game department to let them know. The first thing the game warden said when he came to our house was "your going to regret doing this son." The warden suggested to the judge that my hunting privileges be revoked until i was an adult and that i get fined $5000. He said that being young was no reason for making "such an obvious error in judgement." He also said that they look suspiciously upon people who turn themselves in, feeling that they only do it because they're afraid they might get turned in. Needless to say we fought it and got it reduced but these guys blatantly killed a pet and get a slap on the wrist. Unbelievable...

THATS !@#$#$#!@#$#%!@#$% BULL@#$%$#@%#$%%%$%@... 2 days in Jail.. They should have gotten like 2 or 3 months and had their hunting licenses taken from them for like 10 years... Its the stupid punishments that are not deterring anyone from breaking the law... If a judge got some balls and actually started nailing these @!#$!$ retards then there would be alot less crimes being committed.. DAMN that PISSES me OFF...  :twocents:

Just another part of our "catch and release" system for criminals. Typical.

ok just to point out...you guys have a lot of great points I completly agree. the punishment of killing Henry was really lame.
There was a cash trophy fine of $6000 and there was a bunch of other slaps on the hand but all in all it was a pretty light sentence.
BUT....................if he is caught again he will be thrown in jail for an unknown amount of time. He is also on high alert probation, meaning if he wipes his ass the wrong way he will be back in jail.

He was caught already shooting pheasants out of his window and i can bet this wasnt his first buck poached we just happened to see him do it.

Oh and i forgot to mention that this gem of society is also a sex offender.

what a state we live in huh.

if you are really hot about this like i was drop a line to the WSDFW.

TeamMillCreek@dfw.wa.gov

tell them how you feel.....

Hey backwoods just curious if you were able to get points for turning this scum bag poacher in .  Its  a sad story , he was a nice deer. The game warden in the story didn't look like he took it to serious when he was talking about it.

Growing up in Duvall myself i know this guy.  We actually borrowed some fishing line from him a couple of months ago and talked for a bit.  It's really lame that they decided to do this i didn't know he was like that.  And i agree the sentance is way to light.  We see nice critters in Duvall ALL the time out of season but we don't take it upon ourselves to just kill whatever we want.  It's pathetic.  Tis guy does NOT represent people in Duvall  :'(   :twocents:

yeah i got them and im gonna put in for RIMROCK again ha ha ha ha
just kidding!

 :'( :dunno: :bash: :'(

i didnt get the points for this one, beacause i wasnt the initial caller. my buddy was. however with out the three of us they woudnt have caught him.

I know this scum doesnt represent everyone in duvall but there is a select few that dont understand the meaning of HUNTING and what it means to HUNT.

My dad taught me right and this had wrong written all over it.

Ya i 100% agree with you!!! He is scum i was just making it clear that people out here that actually ARE hunters are just as disgusted by this as everyone on this site!!!  I am ashamed to have gone to school with that punk and i don't think they are teenagers by the way.  Seems like some people are making it sound like they were younger and maybe not as big of a deal but he is at least 20 if not older but that's besides the point they are for sure old enough to use good judgment and know right and wrong. :dunno:

Maybe I missed it, but what did they actually get in trouble for? Did they shoot the buck on private property and somebody saw them? I just never clearly heard what they did.

Sounds like it is getting cheaper to poach than to pay for all your tags, draws etc.   >:(

This whole state is out of whack on punishment for poaching if you ask me.   Last year my buddy and I went for a day drive to take pictures over on Bethell Ridge.  We had seen some really nice bulls, cows and bucks.  We ended up driving up Milloy Canyone for an afternoon picture fest.  We were way up top pushing about 2 feet of snow in the truck when we came around a corner and saw a late 70's blazer and 4 guys doing a mad scramble.  We could see them shoving something in the back and we just realized that we interupted them poaching something.  I pulled off the side of the road and sat there.  They began to drive our way and as they passed all we could see what a huge massive rack of a bull elk.  It had filled the entire back of the vehicle and the antlers were protruding all the way to the front seats.  We ended up writing down the license plate and sat there for a bit.  As I pulled up the road we the entire body of the elk, a saw, hatchet and a 30-30 rifle sitting in the middle of the road.  We didn't touch a thing, turned around and drove to cell phone service and called the fish and game.
Here is the part that PO'd me a bit.  When the they arrived at my truck, they first searched my truck and then gave me and my buddy breathalizer test.  I was a bit irratated one because they looking to nail me for something when I was just doing my part to help nail these guys.  I hadn't had a beer in 2-3 days.  Anyways, they looked the license plate up and told me that they had been to this residence before.  They stated that they are part of the Yakima indian tribe and that they would investigate it.  They said in the past that since they were indians that more than likely nothing would happen.  I ended up following up with the Fish and Game a week later and found this out.

1.  They did not have a permit at the time this happened.
2.  Fish and Game wrote them a ticket but it had been revoked because the tribal elders issued a permit the followign day.

So to make the long story short, they can pretty much poach any animal they want and get a permit after the fact.  What a crock of crap!!!

Killing tame deer 'Henry' is costly for two young men
Mark Yuasa

Back on Nov. 10, 2007, at around 10 a.m., state Fish and Wildlife enforcement officers Nick Jorg and Lance Stevens were dispatched to a private property off Big Rock Road and Odell Road near Duvall to view a trophy four-point black-tail buck killed during a closed hunting season.

A witness told the officers that two young men from the neighborhood had shot the buck with a bow and arrow.

The shooter, Chad Leonard, and his accomplice, Kyle Deboer, initially wounded the deer, which ran across the street and almost got hit by a car, and then jumped over a fence stumbling into a field.

"The two were then seen attempting to gain possession of the buck on the private property as neighbors nearby watched," Jorg said.

The two suspects then got into their vehicle and kept driving back and forth on a road by the dying buck.

According to Jorg, when they arrived a witness told them he had lost count of how many times the suspects kept passing by in their vehicle.

"It was kind of comical," Jorg said. "The two were heading our way so we initiated a traffic stop, then they attempted to flee but eventually pulled over. Both men confessed to shooting the deer."

Upon arriving at the scene, Jorg said the shooter exclaimed: "Wow, it's even bigger than I thought it was."

"I asked him why he shot the deer, since it was about a week and half before the hunting season started," Jorg said. "He claimed he couldn't wait for the season to open. It was a crime of ego and greed, and he simply had to get it before anyone else. They wanted it for the trophy aspect."

Deboer's father told his son to not even think about shooting the neighborhood's tame pet deer nicknamed "Henry."

Leonard was charged with hunting big game in a closed season and hunting without a deer tag. Deboer faced the same charges, but as an accomplice to the crime.

Deboer took a plea deal instead of going to trial and was sentenced to five days of work-crew service and a fine of $635. Deboer has to retake a hunter-safety course, may not hunt or attempt to hunt or possess any weapons or hunting equipment for two years.

On the other hand, Leonard unwisely took the case to trial.

"It was pretty much a slam-dunk case (for the prosecuting attorney, Abigail Cromwell), who did a good job at the jury trial," Jorg said.

Leonard was sentenced to fines of $6,840, spent two days in jail and has to do three days of work-crew service and 40 hours of community service.

Judge Frank V. La Salata at the King County Redmond District Court also revoked all of Leonard's hunting privileges for two years. He must take a hunting-safety class, may not hunt or attempt to hunt, may not have any criminal violations and may not possess any weapons or hunting equipment for two years.

"The judge went somewhat lenient on (Leonard) for the dollar fines, plus he only spent two days in jail when it could have been 365 days," Jorg said. "We feel it was dealt handily and we should give a hand to the prosecutors staff because these kind of cases are awkward dealing with natural-resources law."

The trophy buck was eventually donated to the Snoqualmie Tribe for one of their elderly programs.

SOMETIMES.... (follow me here, I'm going out on a limb)....when I'm reading or listening to story's like these, i wonder why there isn't a huge organized boycot for one year in washington. i know it would be incredibly hard to organize, and probably never happen. but on the other hand can you guys imagine what the state would do without a intire years worth or drawings and tags not bought. maybe they would reconsider WOLF MANAGEMENT, ILLEGAL poaching, ILLEGAL/nonillegal INDIAN poaching. we pay these guys salaries, and we get shatted on. NO ONE... NO ONE LOVES WILDLIFE MORE THEN HUNTERS.... its really discouraging to someone like me who basically just started hunting.
