I am a few years away but am interested in doing a DIY alaskan moose hunt. I know the brooks range is pretty popular to float and I know some people with success there. I am looking for all experiences in a moose/ caribou hunt. Do you think the success rate is higher on a float trip or get dropped off and stay in one area hunt?
What are you experiences, Cost, Things are needed to know, and any hardships you might of had so I dont make the same mistake?
Thank you

Both float hunting and drop camps can be effective, it all depends on what you prefer to do. Either way you want to cow call.
The biggest mistake I have made on a float hunt is trying to cover TOO much country. You need to take time to call and let the bulls come in. Otherwise you are just hoping run into a bull on the river.

Like action said - get a place to see and just scope it. We went deep and got to where we could scope out 3 miles and we saw animals very day but spent half our time behind the spotting scope. Also - last week of sept first week of oct only.
