Title: McGowen Barrels
Post by: wannabhntr on September 30, 2014, 01:42:22 PM
I'm looking at a Savage 116 in 300 win mag with a 28" Mcgowen fluted/stainless barrel. No muzzle break but it is threaded for one.
Any body know much about them. Online search shows mixed reviews. Some say they are great barrels and they are shooting .5" groups and others say they are garbage and they are shooting 2.5" to 3" groups.

I currently have 4 of them; a 19" 358 Win, 19" 284 Win, and 20" 260 Rem, and a 30" 6.5 Badger. All of them are capable of shooting well under .5" at 100 yards. The 284 is my preferred long range barrel on my Strikers.

I put together another rifle for someone using a 28" 6.5x47 Lapua barrel which would also easily shoot under .5" at 100 yards.

I don't think that you'd be disappointed with it at all.
