I'll be in the market soon for a pistol and I'm choosing 9mm for capacity and availability.
With that being said, I want everyones suggestion on the top 9mm pistols on the market.
My budget will be $650 and under.
Thanks a lot.

For what purpose? Plinking? Conceal carry? Home defense? Just for looks?
-
XD9
-
All around for reliability, capacity, concealability, probably the G19, if you like that sort of thing. I do.
-
I really like my dads stainless CZ75 it's at the top of your budget but it is a very nice pistol.I am more of a single stack fan i carry a Kel-tec pf9 a Khar cw40 or a Kimber eclipse in 45.I like the slim profile of single stack grip for concealed carry and shooting also i find a single stack magazine slightly easier to load.

Glock 19
:twocents:

Xdm 9mm. Hands down. If you need a good price let me know. I can hook ya up.
-
Glocks are never a bad choice just the most boring and ugly choice :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
I know nothing about best or worst. Since I've been in the world of 9mm for only a week :chuckle: I just picked up a Ruger SR9c 9mm. This thing is a blast to shoot and will be my main carry holster will be here tomorrow :IBCOOL: $449 b4 tax worth a look :twocents: GL with your search..............

XD9... I have shot 500+ through mine without a single misfire. You can pick one up for under $500-550 but buy a good holster, the one that comes with it is junk.
-
Glock 26
-
I'd like it for home defense. Doesn't need to be compact. How is the Sig SP2022?
-
Glock 19
-
Cz75 all steel, m&p9. Both great shooters, cz is super smooth in all metal format. Can hand to just about anyone and they can handle shooting it.

Well Id say a glock for a couple of reasons NONE of which are thier looks. With a Mag and a new barrel (neither of which requires a background check) you can change that 9mm to a 40 cal or 357 sig. there MAY be other rounds you can change too as well IDK... It would seem that for cheep you could have several differnt calibers much like the way an AR platform is for a rifle. :twocents:

I was gonna mention that, but figured someone else would catch the between the lines and comment ;-)
VOTE NO ON i594!!

Sprinfield Armory XDM = 19 rounds of pain or Glock 17 with a 33 round mag oooohhhhhhh aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh
both quality tools to be had and used ones at a decent price. check out armslist I am sure there are a few on there....
-
My choice is CZ75 and get a .22 conversion, home defense, concealed carry and the .22 for grouse and plinking. :twocents:
-
I would look at these guns in your price range.
Ruger SR9
S&W M&P9
Springfield XD9
Glock 17/19
Springfield XDM9
I am not a huge fan of the Sig 2340 or 2022. They are not the same quality as the other guns I listed in my opinion. Don't be too afraid to look at a used gun if you trust the place you are buying it from. You can sometimes buy a gun that would be a little out of your price range if you find it used. Most current designs will handle tens of thousands of rounds and most used guns will have less than 1000. Lots of options out there for you. All of the guns on that list are great quality, the big thing is how they feel in your hand.
Just my .02
-
I bought a used sig p226 a couple years ago and that thing has been awesome. Isn't picky about ammo, and comes with 16 round clips.
-
CZ
High power(used)
G-19
-
I am a big fan of sigs but I have put 10,000 rounds through a M&P 9mm and that gun still works perfect.
-
Glock-19
FNX-9
-
Biggerhammer I am glad you mentioned the fnx9 that is a great pistol and very underated!

I have a sr9. Little bigger than the sr9c but its my favorite pistol to shoot.

M&P 9
-
Sig, Glock, Springfield, CZ can't go wrong. Have all four. All dependable. I prefer Glock for function, ergonomics, ease of cleaning etc. Never was a fan of S&W semi-autos but they got the M&P done right. WA WSP and DOC carry them and the feedback has been very good
-
I would go with a Glock 17/19/34. The 34 is my favorite for having fun/competition, the 17 is great for packing in the woods.
Mags (you should have at least 10 or more) are dirt cheap, and last forever. I recently found them online for $22 new (Glock OEM). XD mags are harder to find and are twice as expensive, same with M&P mags only M&P mags are more expensive. I also found 33 round mags a couple months ago, again OEM mags, for under $30, buy at least ten of those too.
Glock triggers are o.k. out of the box, especially the 34, but they can be made much better using stock parts and a little knowledge. XD and M&P triggers are absolutely horrendous.
Just a couple of months ago I bought another 17 for $325 (gen 2). Glock certificates can be purchased for a new Glock for $400-$425 if you know someone who shoots GSSF. GSSF certs, depending on the cert, allow you to redeem the cert for a new Gen 3 or pay a $35 fee for a Gen 4. There are upgrade charges for 34/35 or the large frames. The last one I did (paid $400 for the cert) took 12 weeks or so to show up from Smyrna.
-
Should say too that I still see quite a few Glock LE trade ins at gun stores. They usually go for $375 or so. I would not hesitate getting one of those either.
-
Apex triggers make the M & P pretty unbeatable! Just ask Chris Costa...

Who's Chris Costa?

Any of the major brands will treat you fine. Handle a bunch and choose the one that's comfortable in your hand and has a trigger pull you like.

Word for word what I would say.
I would add that having shot a few Glock 9mm under water and other sundry torture tests, they are without peer.

Glock 19 is a good choice. Like them better than any of the 3 XD's I have. Spend a little more though and get a sig p226 tac op. Best high capacity nine out there IMHO.

I'm a Glock 9mm guy. One of the main reasons I went for Glock was dependability - especially when I bought my first 17, 21 years ago ( I think the competition has closed or erased the gap now, but back then, they could handle abuse like no other). That 17 is still my carry gun today. Hardly needs cleaned if at all, zero corrosion issues, even if stuck in a soaking wet pack for a week or two and not wiped down after, and if you plan on having multiple pistols, the Glock family of guns in matching caliber will all accept the full size large cap mags. For example, I have a 17L ( 6" barrel), 17's (full size), 19(mid size), and 26("Baby Glock") all in 9mm. All of those pistols will accept the hi cap 17 round mags from the 17/ 34/ 17L, or for that matter, the 30 round mag I have.
I had talked with a former Thurston County Sheriff about Glocks following my original purchase. He was a certified Armorer who had gone to "Glock School". He was told the gun never needed cleaning by Glock. He said he had about 5K rounds through his weapon at the time of that course and hadn't cleaned it since. At the time we had the conversation, he said he had put over 65K rounds through it with no issues. I believed him, but who knows. I know I have put 6k to 7k through mine with minimal cleaning and no issues. In the the rounds I have shot, I have had one casing caught in the breach following a shot. I believe this was due to bad form rather than an issue with the pistol. I had not tensed up before the shot so my arm ended up taking a lot of the recoil, which didn't let the slide do it's job.
There is also the old "throw it in the dish washer" if you don't want to clean it by hand. I have heard this from more than one dealer and the gentleman mentioned above. Not sure I would go that far, but that's the kind of abuse they are known to handle.
For any pistol or any semi auto, I would stay away from the steel cased ammo. The potential is there for the steel cases to chew away at the feed ramps over many many rounds. :twocents:

Go Beretta compact inox rail or go home

I have most of the guns listed and felt like the M&P 9 was one of the worst guns i have ever purchased. The trigger was so bad that it wasn't even fun to shoot. I could of gotten a new trigger but I decided to sell it instead. It pisses me off when you spend hard earned money and then have to spend more money to make your purchase right. I really like the Glocks and Sigs though. The XD isn't a bad gun and my wife really likes it but it wasn't really for me but it didn't really seem to have any flaws.
-
I've been looking pretty close at a Sig P250. Price almost seems too good to be true, though..
-
To the OP, the best thing to make a decision is go to a range with rentals, or shoot with some friends and try as many different models that you can and see what fits for you. Too many opinions can be confusing. Find what works and feels best to you!
-
CZ75 is the top of the 9x19 food chain.
You can get an STI Spartan 9mm 1911 that will be the envy of all but the Glock guys.
They don't know any better. :chuckle:
-
Cz 75, 75b, 75b omega, glock 17/19, Xd's, sigs, whichever fits your hand best.

Probably the best advice here. Specially if looking for a smaller carry gun. Guns of similar size when small can have very different recoil and feel while firing. Make sure you have one you are comfortable and confident with so you practice and are proficient. The lives of yourself AND everyone around could depend on it.

Glocks are never a bad choice just the most boring and ugly choice :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
:yeah:
I have several 9mm's but you need to figure this out yourself. I hated the G19 and the way it felt in my hand when compared to my others so I sold it. I love my M&P, Beretta, and CZ 75 though. Never had any problems with either. You need to go fondle a bunch of them and figure out if you want steel, poly, compact, sub, fullsize.
-
XDM .40, 17 mag capacity! Very accurate gun, I carry mine every single day and trust it should I ever need lethal force on any two legged or 4 legged animal..
9mm just dont have enough ummph, I switched to .40 back in 2011.
Shoot a bunch of diffrent ones and you will find one you like.
-
The FN 9 is really nice....and I like the Beretta 92. A new one! Not an over used, under taken care of, loose & violated M9 that got a bad reputation.
-
Glock 34 or M&P 9L
-
Glock 19-17 or Sig
-
xd9s. a bit lighter. mike w
-
If you're looking for a single stack 9mm in the small-medium size range, I bought a new Walther PPS I really like.
-
I bought an FNX-9 because my Browning Hi-Power was getting to be worth too much to continue shooting it. I was so impressed, I sold my XD-40 and XD-45 and bought an FNP-40 (used) and an FNX-45. The only drawback to them is that there aren't a lot of accessories available for the FN's. I ended up buying a Galco leather holster for the FNX-9 and the FNP-40. The FNX-45 is too big for the holster, though, so I use a drop-leg holster for it! :twocents:

Anything from Glock, Sig, H&K, S&W, FN or Springfield and a slight nod to CZ. Nothing from Ruger, Kel-tec, Jerico or any other brand you've never heard of. I may get flamed for that last comment but I stand by it.
If its strictly for HD I would recommend the Glock 34. its basicly a G17 with a longer barrel/slide, extended mag and slide release and a slightly lighter trigger. mount a light to it and call it a day, you wont regret it.
However if the Glocks not to your liking try out one of the others I listed. go to a show or store and see which one fits your hand best. If you are digging the Sig I would say go for it, Sigs are great guns.
-
xd subcompact in model II, of course in 9 mm. buy a rubber sleeve to cover the word "gripzone". they should supply them. not much thought went into that. mike w

What a loaded question- easy answer is to buy one of each!
Everyone will have an opinion on which is best -
Pick a few to choose from and go to a friendly gun store to handle or better yet shoot them if they have a rental program, see if they fit you.
What you choose will probably be looked back on as one of the first ones...as skills develop you're tastes will change and to complicate matters you may find the gun you choose isn't the one you can shoot as well as say..a Glock 19 for example.
You can look for various surveys of IDPA shooters http://www.idpa.com/blog/?tag=/Equipment+Survey (http://www.idpa.com/blog/?tag=/Equipment+Survey) for their choices.
The guns you like aren't always the 'best' at whatever but may serve your needs just fine.
Lots of haggling over the torture test results.
Since most guns come with a limited lifetime warranty of some sort, the warranty it isn't worth the trouble worrying over.
Most folks simply will not live long enough, or make enough money to buy the ammo to wear one out.
And if you do send it in and they will fix it or give you another new one.
Here is some old data from another site- have seen other tests upwards of 90k rounds-

Just pick one..easy deal.
My theory..browse the gun counter..pick one up that I like..I buy it..try to shoot a few thousand rounds out of it before passing judgement and repeat the process.

If price weren't an issue, the HKp30. ..nothing more ergonomic and HK has a $200 rebate right now. Makes it a $700 gun!
-
My favorite 9mm of all that I've owned and shot is the CZ SP-01. Full size, all steel, night sights, good trigger, 19 or 20 round magazine. Lots to like about that gun. I loved the grip and how high and deep of a grip I could get with it. I used mine as my home defense gun with a light mounted on it for years and still would, but my wife has small hands and it was too big for her to comfortably use.
I love that gun and can't recommend it enough.
A Glick 17, XDM or M&P would all be tied for 2nd on my list. They're all good guns, just pick the one that fits you best and go from there. An XDM 9mm is the home defense gun now as its smallest back strap fit well for my wife.
I'll come out and suggest a full size Glick if you get one, the 19 tend to pinch the crap outta my palm when I reload and don't make a conscience effort to get my hand part way off the grip.
-
I decided to pick up a Walther PPX for 330 out the door. I love it...
-
Go rent some at a range to try out. I really liked the Glock 19 I had years ago (Gen I ??) , but I have short stubby fingers and it just did not fit well which meant "I" did not shoot it well.
I really like the Sigs, I have the 229 in .40, but I have had a chance to shoot dad's Sig 226 and it shoots real well for me. The 226 comes in several variations so it should be easy to find one you like, if you have the $.
A Beretta 92 is a good home defense pistol since you won't be out getting it all mucked up, nice solid feel, runs pretty smooth. It's a little bulky to carry much if it's warm out and you want to conceal it under light clothes.
The other major brands all make fine home defense weapons. Look at what LE agencies use and you will get a good idea of what works and what does not.
but again, the key is getting something in your hand that "you" can shoot. Doesn't do any good if it's a fine firearm but it does not fit you to the point you can't hit $hit.
