Wanted to share a few pictures of my Daughter's Mtn Goat hunt. She drew one of two Mt Washington B tags this year. After a couple scouting trips we knew this was going to be a tough hunt but she did the work to get ready for the adventure. The basin we decided to hunt had no trail access so we had to bushwhack and climb about 2500 feet to get to goat elevation. Due to the steep terrain, camping locations were basically nonexistent for a two man tent so we decided to just take a tarp and find a suitable shelter. We ended up camping under a large rock high on the mountain fairly close to water source. The first night we only had emergency sleeping sacks and the clothes on our backs but later packed in sleeping bags and pads once we located the camp spot. We saw goats every day but the basin we were hunting was primarily full of Nannies and kids. We had one nice Billy at about 150 yards on the first night but was up on a ledge that we weren't sure he would drop off of and no way to get to him if he hung up so we had to pass. After that it was 3 days of Nannies and kids and one lone Nanny hanging with the group that didn't have a kid was beginning to look good to my daughter. On Day 5 of the hunt the lone Nanny showed up in a spot where we could get to and my daughter sealed the deal with one shot from her trusty 7MM-08. Unfortunately the goat tumbled off a 50 foot cliff and tumbled about 200 yards down an old slide and broke off the right horn but we were lucky and it was still attached by a small piece of hide so will be repairable by the taxidermist. Anyway, there is nothing better than seeing your kids succeed especially after working so hard. Since it was jut my daughter and I, we boned out all the meat and packed the hide out in one heavy trip and then had to go back and retrieve camp on another trip. A few bumps, bruises, scrapes and sore muscles but a hunt that we will reflect on for years to come.
As luck would have it as we were packing up camp a nice Billy popped out on a rock only 100 yards above our camp....all we could do was smile and enjoy the sight. The trophy is not always in the size of the horns which was the case on this hunt. My daughter has a trophy that she is happy with and that's all that matters.
