This has been my most challenging rifle season to date. I always take my dad out and help him get his buck in the rifle season. We were in 2 point city most of the time and same literally hundreds of does. I have never had such a hard time seeing good deer. We passed on 3 small whitetails opening morning and a small forky with and eye guard on Sunday. It was not until last night that we could even get on a respectable buck. Dad got it done with a 320 yard shot. It was his last day to hunt and the way the season was going he was ready to fill his tag. The buck was a 3x3 with eye guards so I guessyou can call it a 4x4. Nothing special but better than everything else we saw. I’ll get a picture up later.

2006 was a tough season too. Same conditions; hot, dry, bad moon... :(
Getting some moisture today finally though. I hope my area is getting the same rain we are getting in town right now... PathfinderJR still has a tag to fill...

I was down sort of almost kinda in your neighborhood in a roundabout sort of way and I really didn't see much different than past years. The big differences I saw this year over past years was the deer I had on cameras. A lot better bucks than normal. They seemed to have vanished come deer season but I atttribute that to the hunters riding around the farm we hunt on 4 wheelers and side by sides blowing all the deer out of the country. That and the non-stop 50mph winds probably kept them in their cover more.
:dunno:

Glad your dad got his buck. Looking forward to seeing the photo. From what I experienced, less deer by far, less bucks, still filled my tag with a good one. I am probably one of the lucky ones I guess. From what I hear, horrible year. It will be interesting to see how my photo adventure turns out. I think I might shoot for the moon this year and go for 100 bucks instead of the usual 500. Less stress that way.

It really stumped me cause I did see a lot of good bucks during archery. They just seem to not be in the normal spots this year for rifle. I know the numbers are way low from muzzy and rifle on some property that my buddy works on. They usually put up big numbers there but not this year. Some kid did shoot a cool non typical buck that had got caught in some bailing twin and had it all stuck in his horns. He looked like he had a clown wig on it was awesome. Guess it was the kids first buck. I told him they had to mount it because it was so unique. This rain today should help things out though. Good luck to all who are still hunting!
