Title: The good the bad and the ugly
Post by: EastWaViking on December 13, 2008, 07:57:30 PM: Here's an idea. Post your favorite and least favorite mount you own. Not because of
antler size, but because of the quality of the taxidermy job. Don't say who did the bad ones, just show us the good the bad and the ugly.

Here is mine.

The good -- Done by a Taxidermist in Spokane
It looks alive to me.

A wyo Taxidermist - What's up with the bulges under the eyes??? Looks like he went a couple rounds with Mike Tyson.

Never had it officially scored, I green scored it at mid 160's gross and high 140's net.

Post by: wrangler on December 13, 2008, 09:02:17 PM: don't have a bad one. buzzy cook does all my mounts and all are UNREAL. 2 muleys 2 whitetail 2 antelope 1 6x7 bull and 2 pheasants. if you can stand the wait, the detail and life-like-ness are second to none. i always feel sick when i see a great trophy absoluty flushed down the *censored*ter cause of poor taxidermy. i'll snap some pics when i get a chance.

The elk he does are second to none. I love going to his shop since you never know what is gonna be there from polar bears to arctic timber wolves. I'll take a photo of my muley and post it tomorrow.

I like this one because its a deer my dad killed in the early 70's

He worked extra hard to save it because of circumstances I won't mention, but no fault of my own. I offered to pay extra for his efforts but he refused to accept any more than the quoted price when I brought it in. That is someone that you like doing business with and the reason he is so busy. I got this "Blacktail" on the late hunt in '89. I posted this previously in another thread.

Post by: Elkstuffer on December 23, 2008, 11:20:55 PM: This buck was killed on the YTC last Nov and mounted locally by someone that actually charges there customers for this kind of work. The mount was finished and at the Central WA Sportsmans Show 2 1/2 months later. He is an awesome buck with a 31+" outside spread and scores 160+. What a shame.

Post by: bucklucky on December 28, 2008, 06:12:10 PM: I figured something came up ;) That is a waist, goes to show what shortcut Taxidermy can do! There is more to taxidermy than just throwing a cape on a form and sewing it up, alot more. Tanning is a whole nother ballgame in itself as you can see with you Mountain goat. Thats an alum tan that wasnt properly neutralized more than likely. Too bad.
