Title: Buck of lifetime (Idaho)
Post by: alwinearcher on October 17, 2014, 01:16:27 PM
I have been meaning to share this for some time, but just haven't had the opportunity until now.

I found out I drew this Idaho tag in a redraw less then 2 weeks before the hunt started. I had never hunted this unit before but luckily I had some good friends give me some pointers on the area.

I knew this tag had the potential for a great deer so I cleared my schedule as best I could and talked my buddies Zach and Dalton into coming with me.
We backpacked into the unit 7 days before season and ended up spotting this buck from about 3 miles away on our second day. We then spent 5 days glassing for him from about 2 miles out. We saw him twice before season and then again we spotted him on opening morning. After one of the hardest 3 hour stalks of my life we were able to get within within range and put him down with a single shot..

It was one of the physically hardest hunts I have ever been on, I can't say enough about how hard Zach and Dalton worked to help this dream come true!

He was gross green scored at 222 1/2" with a green net typical of 205"
I doubt I will ever able to top this deer, but lord knows I'm gonna try ;)

Should I jump on someone else's bandwagon? The guy that's flaunting 28 sponsors because he killed a doe on video? Or beastmode shirt/shoe/cutoff shirt selling guy because he can bench 350? Because you need D cups like that to hike into the wilderness?? No sir. You're a real hunter with a real show and everything. As I told you before (when I originally began stalking...err idolizing you) you're humble, I like that in an idol. This is getting weird but at least I got to rip "oversponsored guy" while I was at it  :chuckle: :chuckle:

I asked what hunt this was and he said a good one.  I don't see a tag and there are only a few early rifle hunts.  I am sure the game department has looked into it, but I still wanna know what unit!  I can eliminate the unit 1 early hunt, not that much backcountry up here.  The ones down south I am not so sure of, except its obviously not a desert unit, anyone got an idea?

I notch, but don't affix, because tag goes with meat and meat comes out first.  I take photos without tags showing.  But......like Plat said,  hard to look at any of this and not wonder.   I wonder how mr kiss feels about his idol now.

Talk about internet police.
 :police:
I will wait 10 minutes or so to snap a few pictures before affixing my tag. I notch immediately, snap a few pics, attach the tag, then put my orange back on  :yike: and put the tag on, then take another pic so I can show everyone I was all legal and legit.

Man, difficult to look at all the other hunts and wonder how many of those may have been legitimate... :dunno:

I Guess it depends on what the definition of "legitimate" is, and from the little bit I have seen of these type of shows, and what I have seen the individuals involved in - they certainly use a much more plastic and flexible definition of legitimate than the individuals I choose to associate with.  I don't have a television, but I do see these shows on occasion when visiting friends homes.  From what I have seen, they are not for me.

You seem to have a think about pointing out the negative in lots and lots of posts. Please stop. I think you're new here. We sort of try to defer from that practice. If you don't like the things that are posted on here, it's just like the radio or the TV. There are other things to watch/read/listen to. Feel free to turn off the internet.

just so everyone knows first Idaho doesn't have hunter orange law so he can wear whatever, 2nd it say attach tag to the largest portion of meat, putting em on horns can technically get you a ticket,

I wasn't referring to the tag issue, I was referring to his poaching issue in Montana. That occurred over many years and also in another state. That's not to say he didn't commit the same offense in other states.   :dunno:

My definition of legitimate is legal kill. Again, he broke the law in another state so what's to stop him from doing it in that state or ours? This buck may or may not have been legitimately (legally) harvested but we don't know for sure due to his recent convictions.  So, it is difficult to look at other animals and congratulate if history tells me he poaches...

Apparently Jonnyjammer doesn't go over the speed limit 1 mph, makes a complete stop at every posted stop sign prior to the stop line...I can go on and on.  You're talking about "immediately' well your definition can be articulated differently by someone else.  I'm not talking about Alwines situation, I'm talking about you acting like you have never once in your life done exactly per the law.  Sorry Mr. High and mighty take a step off your high horse and give it a break.  If a guy doesn't attach the tag immediately you're saying he's breaking the law by the way it reads.  Well next time you get ticketed for 1 mph over don't complain but thats all you do.  You get it...you really do. Congrats.

Right...so he's not on this forum anymore because we banned him for constantly stirring the pot among other things.
You sure you're not him? Your posts almost mimic his perfectly. Your grammar, punctuation, etc all match almost perfectly.
You even share the same IP address as him. If you want to stay on this forum, you might try to not be just like him as much as it seems you are right now.
Just some helpful advice.

This is something I cannot corroborate, but a few years back I heard about an investigation regarding a well known celebrity individual for violations here in Washington State for game law violations.  AFAIK no one was charged in that investigation, but the charge was serious enough and there was sufficient suspicion to put lots of resources into investigating that case.

I did an internet search and it did return a few hits that seem to be consistent with what I had heard.

Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officers assisted with the investigation. Alwine was involved in a Washington investigation in 2010, said Dan Rahn, Washington Wildlife police officer.

What exactly did I do wrong to warrant all this attention anyways?

I used to be the video editor for a TV show but recently found myself unemployed.  Apparently I didn't cut out enough of the recognizable landmarks of the frame.  My bad.  I think they are looking for a new editor if you want to apply.  Currently they are "in transition".

2015 big game pg. 88 #1 .pictures are cool no doubt (esp. yours boneaddict),But Unless the people that are on tv or whatever have diff. reg books then the rules are the rules and anything else is poaching.

Is this WA regs?
This hunt took place in Idaho.

Are you stevemiller?
Nevermind, don't answer that.
no, is he on this forum? he works here.

I thought he was Banned because nobody likes the Steve Miller Band (except my Dad, He loves that band)

My bet is it was unit 39.

Not only did he get banned he got Jonnyjammer fired.  Jonny said it was his own fault but now that we know they are the same person it technically means Steve got him fired also.

That was going to be a real awkward drive home from work together.  Hope they didn't get stuck in the Chinese Presidential traffic.

My guess Jonny dropped Steve off so one of them could go shopping for that new laptop.

We should all keep our eyes out on the "New Member Introductions" to see if their girlfriend sweetsally joins the forum in the next few days.

I dont know but whatever punishment he gets will carry the ban to the states in the alliance ... IMO these offenses should be lifetime bans then maybe people would use their head a little more but his lawyer will find some technicality and get it reduced to 5 yrs.

Got it, I think he is banned from hunting for 4 years.

I was thinking you were saying he was banned from Huntwa like Stevemiller.

I know he hasn't posted or been active on the site but wasn't sure if they were going to take any action against him.  I think he used to be a site sponsor, his signature block doesn't say that now. They may want to cut any ties with him because of his negative actions.  I could see removing him as a sponsor but I would think that he should still be able to follow and post to the site.

Yes, he has/had a TV show, Trophy State of Mind.  He was busted for getting a resident hunting license in Montana when he was not a resident and hunting multiple years on property that he didn't have permission to hunt and took a bunch of animals.

Here is the thread that has all the information on the charges.

But, he committed game crimes in another state prior to this buck being taken, had he been convicted earlier for the other states crimes, he surely would not have had his license to hunt this buck. The moment he committed a crime that would have revoked his hunting rights in all states, any animal taken from that time up to the time he was convicted in a court of law is a poached animal in my eyes.  :twocents:

Exactly, my guess is there are more incidents that are not on the up and up or have some sliver of poor judgment attached to them.

Everything has to be questioned and doubted.

Disappointing on so many levels.

The arrogance and cavalier attitude suggests to me that this incident, in which he plead guilty, is indicative of this type of behavior being a way of life.  I have heard in the past that this individual had been the target of WDFW investigation into his activities, but the evidence was not deemed sufficient to convict.

As I have posted earlier in this thread:

"Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officers assisted with the investigation. Alwine was involved in a Washington investigation in 2010, said Dan Rahn, Washington Wildlife police officer.
http://www.spokesman.com/tags/poaching/blogposts/"

Bottom line: This conviction does not impress me as being an isolated incident of willful disregard for game and trespass laws.  FWIW, I doubt that we have heard the last from various authorities regarding this gent.
