I was curious if anyone had had any success in either the Ryderwood or Willapa Hills units for modern firearm deer? The reason that I ask is because after buying the Weyco permit, spending several days scouting and hunting all through these units, hunting in the perfect blacktail weather and every hunting method that I have in my arsenal, My daughter and I have seen only one doe. We talked to a few other hunters and they all had the same to say, "this is the worst deer hunting season that we have ever seen up there" We have been able to locate elk but virtually no deer. Is anyone else running into this problem as well?
Thanks!

Wait til next week, they get dumb and come out of nowhere. Still too warm right now but I've been seeing 8 to 12 deer every day I've been out. Including a very nice buck who was just flat quicker then me.

Yeah, I'm not too excited about it yet. The last week of regular season is always the best. I have been seeing deer other places just not in those 2 units. I found it especially odd today with the high winds, rain etc. that we couldn't pick out something between beating the brush, slow stalking the timber and glassing the cuts (picking apart every stump and rock). The conditions were perfect for hunting, just a lack of critters. :dunno:

I've hunted Fall River (Pe Ell north) 3 times (but not til like 8am til the kids are in school)and haven't seen a single deer. I've been to some primo spots, doing lots of glassing, turning over every fern, walking down ridges into the bottoms stopping every 20 feet to glass, looking behind every jack fir from every angle. I'm good at picking out a small patch of hide or an ear flicker through the brush and I'm just beside myself. I know there's still about 2 weeks left but man I just can't believe we haven't seen anything. My wife, however, did spot some elk bedded in the timber about 600 yds away. She was pretty proud of herself., and she's got a modern elk tag so we may keep track of them.

I'm not to far from there and in 3 days out I've seen 50+ deer and 4 of them bucks not including the numerous toeheads I've seen ...hell I've seen 7 deer already today and its only 7am :chuckle:
