Title: SUCCESS (or not)TALLY (DEER 2014)
Post by: boneaddict on October 20, 2014, 05:56:11 AM
How did we do this year?   Unlike the WDFW I don't need to know what unit you were hunting in and unlike the record books, I don't need to know what county.  :)

If you remove your vote you should be able to vote again  (up to 3 choices)  This was meant for individuals in Washington State, not the whole family, and also you will be limited if you got more than one doe of same species.

WOW! The success rate of the members here is .........just..............WOW!
Less than 10% got tag soup?
Maybe this isn't the most scientific method of figuring success rates.
Title: Re: SUCCESS (or not)TALLY (DEER 2014)
Post by: boneaddict on October 22, 2014, 09:17:16 AM
A lot of people aren't ready to throw in the towel yet (late seasons coming up).  Not trying to come up with success rates anyway.

By the way...BENCHLEGS   I'll let you pick Muley or blacktail.
Title: Re: SUCCESS (or not)TALLY (DEER 2014)
Post by: Seahawk12 on October 22, 2014, 04:08:31 PM
:chuckle: I would imagine that most hunters won't want to take the poll if they can't pick one of the top options anyways.
I was considering hitting some spots for quick day hunts during late season, but last night I took the rifle out to look at the scope because I have been reading up on how they work and realized that the elevation turret has broken. So, I am definitely out til next year.
I hope there are hundreds more votes on the poll. It will motivate me for next year.

Give it about 2 weeks and then its their turn to hit the ground.  I talked to a biologist in Western Montana/Idaho border and he had a big bruiser run by him on a doe, then mounted up in front of him.   That surprised me.

Heading out for late archery hoping to fill my general deer and the wife is hoping to fill hers also.  I will vote in December.

Great to share a hunt experience with my best friend's son with the spike, and initiate another buddy in to the gutting and butchering process with the doe.

5x5 Whitetail Buck. Watched him and a 5x6 on my game cam starting early Oct.  Hunted those two bucks exclusively.  Passed on anything else I saw.  Finally shot the 4x4 on 18 Nov.  He was hot in pursuit of a doe.  Worked out just right as I am able to hunt every day and only had to sit out the 19th!!

Daughter shot a whitetail doe during general rifle, we both shot whitetail does with our second deer tags and I just shot a mule deer buck during late archery.  Great season for us with tons of good eating whitetail in the freezer.  The mule deer is going to have to be mostly hamburger, jerky and peperoni, butchering that one tonight.

I am amazed I was feeling as good as I am. Doctor put me on a 10 pound lifting limit for 5 days. My hunting partner did all the work...I just had to sit at my honey hole stand and shoot.  :chuckle: Doctor cleared me to go to the cabin after the ultrasound of my heart. He said go to where you feel comfortable and can get good R&R....that's what I did.  :chuckle:

According to these harvest numbers whitetail bucks are the hardest to get, followed by blactail bucks, then mulie bucks. The numbers don't lie! Kind of odd to see the whitetail bucks the lowest since there is more whitetail than mule deer or blactail. :dunno:.

Or perhaps more people are focusing on Mulies since in a lot of areas it's a short season and they still have the late season to hunt whitetails.

I'd say hardest to hunt and the lowest reported current success are two different numbers.  Blacktail take the hardest to hunt category by far.  Strictly cause of the terrain they live in.  I have yet to kill a whitetail though as I've only pursued them a few days out of my years hunting.   Kinda all depends on where your hunting if it's a hard hunt or not.  All these species can be found in local towns.  Especially now...

I thought about that, but most of these numbers are from last season 2014. You make a valid point though about concentrating on mule deer since there is only 10 days in most areas to take one.

Seen more blacktail on Halloween then I have ever seen.  And the wife got hers a spiker.  The kid before her he got a sacred unicorn.  Lol. Makes me a proud dad.  All blacktails for us.

Good work everyone
