Found a camera deep in the North Idaho mountains. It was back under a rock at the edge of a large rock slide. Put it into my pack and when I got home, I removed the half exposed roll of film and had it developed. Pictures of people, a football game, and one of a young boy standing by a pickup. The license plate was readable. Took the picture the police and they gave the name of the owner of the PU. Called him and It was his camera. Described the location I found it and we determined that a Pika or Pack Rat probably moved it as last he remembered having it on the pack trip in but discovered it gone when arriving in camp. Probably fell out along the trail and got moved off the trail and down into the rockslide.

that's is strange, I've seen a few righty's but honestly most times it only gets a glance as I walk threw. Been a right handed pigskin glove on a trail up moon creek drainage for past 2 years lol.

That would suck to be that guy. A buddy of mine lost the bolt on his muzzy while hunting in Idaho once. It's a lot harder to shoot that way.

No they were in grayback. Bushnells hanging on a tree limb. My kids enjoyed them :)

Me and another member on here found the decomposing body of a man outside of Leavenworth the day before archery this year.Found out a couple of weeks ago that itwas a 26 year old man from Utah, and he had been dead about 6 weeks wwhen we found him.

Had a few years there when I found Pot grows a couple times a year. Was funny, when the OSP would come in and clear them out they would leave a sign "Harvested --/--/---- by Oregon State Police" Not sure if that was a policy or just one of our local officers. I was told it was so no one would get killed being blamed for taking someone's stash.
Shovels...at least a dozen shovels!
When I would hunt off the PCT I would find pipes and Maryjane baggies about once a year.
On the Oregon Coast we ran upon a good number of huge fossil beds. Nothing big and exciting, but lots of them!
A couple wallets, couple grave stones, couple bows, a couple axes, couple binoculars, lots of ammunition, one 30-30 Marlin, about a dozen knives and at least two dozen archery release aides. Folks need to stop putting things on top of the car!!!
Then of course the best find is cash and gold. I think over the past 30 years I've found close to $500 in cash laying either on the road or on the PCT. Once in CA found a nickel sized gold nugget right next to a pig I had shot. Think the pigs had rooted it up. Biggest nugget I've ever held. Land owner seemed pretty dang excited to get that as a tip!
Sure I will remember more, but those are the things that come to mind first.

A absolutely spotless white dress hanging by a clothes hanger from a tree limb, I have no idea why but far enough out there that it made no sense what so ever. Just left the dress, figured someone knew it was there.
I saw a chick walking the PCT wearing nothing but mosquitos and a watch. Maybe she forgot which tree she hung her dress from :chuckle:

Tons of mylar baloons, a few old pocket knives, old trappers cabin way, way back in a MT draw (was full of old cooking gear/lantern/stretching boards, etc.) and I never found it again, a full bull elk skeleton (buddy packed the rack out), another buddy found a rangefinder, another buddy found a two way radio. I came across a skinned out wolf carcass this year in ID and high on an ID ridge, I came across the memorial pictured below.. that had to be one of the coolest things I've ever came across in the elk woods.
That memorial is pretty damn cool. I like it when I come across things in the middle of the woods that somebody has put a lot of time and effort into making. Be it a meat pole, pile of rocks, targets, or memorials. Its just kinda cool.

The next wasn't me, but a friend who was out duck hunting when he found another friend of ours who had disappeared three months earlier. His body was pinned up against a log jam in a large creek.

when i was 17? found a pot grow op, went back a couple months later and it had been moved but all the water jugs where still there
ive found multiple cars, knives, arrows nothing really cool lately. just an old pair of simmons binos that were rotted and fell apart once i grabbed them. im sure im forgetting some stuff i found out dinkin around

my buddy went back the fallowing weekend and made it a ways back there until he got to a cabin that had a decomposing elk hanging from the front awning or breezeway of the log cabin.

Literally hundreds of old indian arrow heads on the high plateau in Oregon. You can still hunt deer and antelope from the old indian blinds scattered around. Crazy that all these years later the animals still travel the same routes they did when the natives roamed that territory. I actually walk up on a buck antelope that was sleeping in one of the blinds. Not sure who was more startled...him or me! Some of those old blinds still have the old fire pits exposed with piles of obsidian around them. Historian in town said they would knap their arrows heads right there in the blinds and shoot animals at night that would come close to see the fire.

My Great Grandfather found a Model 99 .303 Savage with octagon barrel leaning against a tree in the mid 1950s and gave to my dad for his first deer rifle. It blew up on my dad while shooting at a deer when he was in his teens and in 1989 I had it rebuilt by a Master Gunsmith. Turned out pretty nice. I too have found some preety cool memorials of hunters past.
Was that in the Capitol Forest? My grandmother used to tell a story of times being so bad during and just after the war they resorted to poaching for meat. Story goes my grandfather had shot a small deer about 100 yards from the road and before he could return to get his gun they saw someone coming up the road. So they took off and took the deer home. They spent days trying to find the spot again and never could. They had to borrow money and even cooked bricks in their kitchen oven to afford the gasoline to go up and look for the gun. Finally they just had to give up and grandpa's 303 was lost forever.

I was in the cascades in an area that was pretty far from a trail and rough climbing, found a small cave that had a couple of tin cans that looked 40-50 years old and a fire ring. Very cool to know another hunter was there.

not hunting but found a box of 8 track tapes once. a playboy on the side of the raod once many years ago.
several bone piles of deer or Cows etc.. saw what looked like a old car door the other day.
Old homesteads are good places to find old farm machinery old outhouses etc...
What gets me and I know it said no garbage but still what gets me is the can of beer way back off the trails you find sometimes.
Glass, mason jars, coins, hammers, wrenches, oil cans old ones, tin drums, old stove oil well, or containers the thing you fill up to hold lots of heating oil. buckets plastic, and metal. sets of keys once found a machete too.
Ya that one said he found a old cabin with a old rotten elk I'd stay the hell away, or call the cops maybe.

A man committed suicide on 410 car was there a week finally pulled in and went up to it he was done.Had a brand new 10-22 by his side the car was facing hells crossing turn out we got a cow that year was heading to break up camp had our meat in my jeep from squaw rock now when I see a car parked in turnouts I always think of that guy never heard who he was not a good ending to a great tripPilebuck, the person you came across that had committed suicide, were they driving a Volkswagen Jetta? The reason I ask is because some years back I knew of some one that supposedly drove to one if their favorite areas and committed suicide but we were never given all the details. It crosses my mind once in a while because none if us ever saw it coming.

No he was driving a red Volvo older man in his late fifties early sixties about 5 or 6 years ago.A man committed suicide on 410 car was there a week finally pulled in and went up to it he was done.Had a brand new 10-22 by his side the car was facing hells crossing turn out we got a cow that year was heading to break up camp had our meat in my jeep from squaw rock now when I see a car parked in turnouts I always think of that guy never heard who he was not a good ending to a great tripPilebuck, the person you came across that had committed suicide, were they driving a Volkswagen Jetta? The reason I ask is because some years back I knew of some one that supposedly drove to one if their favorite areas and committed suicide but we were never given all the details. It crosses my mind once in a while because none if us ever saw it coming.

Not my story but my buddy was hiking with his girlfriend up by index and they came around the corner and there was a guy who just came out of the woods big guy. He stopped in the middle of the trail and he was naked from the waste down holding his junk and laughing at them. He started walking towards them and my buddy freaked out and didn't know what to do. He drew his pistol on him and asked him what the f he was doing and told him to get out of there. The guy turned around around and walked back into the woods. I couldn't stop laughing when he told me even know it's some pretty scary stuff.
Isn't that considered a sex offense?

My Great Grandfather found a Model 99 .303 Savage with octagon barrel leaning against a tree in the mid 1950s and gave to my dad for his first deer rifle. It blew up on my dad while shooting at a deer when he was in his teens and in 1989 I had it rebuilt by a Master Gunsmith. Turned out pretty nice. I too have found some preety cool memorials of hunters past.
Was that in the Capitol Forest? My grandmother used to tell a story of times being so bad during and just after the war they resorted to poaching for meat. Story goes my grandfather had shot a small deer about 100 yards from the road and before he could return to get his gun they saw someone coming up the road. So they took off and took the deer home. They spent days trying to find the spot again and never could. They had to borrow money and even cooked bricks in their kitchen oven to afford the gasoline to go up and look for the gun. Finally they just had to give up and grandpa's 303 was lost forever.

This state is pretty strict on indian artifacts from my understanding. I grew up in Missouri, that was my dads hobby. He had thousands of them. I checked into it when I moved here and was told it was a big no/no. What is the issue with picking up a arrowhead? I've found a couple, never thought a thing about picking it up and taking it home.
dunno if this is an everywhere thing or just a wetside thing but over here on the wetside if you see an indian artifact, arrowhead, or a dog bone leave it there or the entire place will be dug up and ruined or youll get a fine and they will tell you "that they knew it was there and had it marked but left it to preserve the history?"

Knives, maps, warm two point cougar kill. Walking stick that I tried to find the owner. I looked it up on the net and it is made in Germany out of a root. worth 250.00. Lost it mushroom hunting last week, when I went chasing some elk. Spent two hours looking for it and found it! Now it has high viz tape on it.
The last two months I have found. A old crosscut saw stuck in a tree stump. (Put it back) Blown glass bottle with the purex sign blown into it. My dog's hunting coat that he lost 3 years ago. Mice chewed it a little but that was a needle in the haystack find. And a old Heidelberg beer can with the church key opening triangles. Upside down on a stump and in very good shape.

Wow, some crazy stuff people find. I have found a knife stuck in a tree and me and my dad found some Axes that looked like the loggers just left after they were done clear cutting. lots of empty cans, still dont know why you would pack in a pop drink it then just throw it on the ground. Pack it out people. The coolest thing was a spear head off of a Atlatl the Fort Rock unit in Oregon. I took it my college anthropology professor and he could not believe that we just found it since it was in such great shape. Funny thing was that it was on a fence line just laying on top of rock. My dad thought it was a piece of plastic because it was black from being made from obsidian. he just hit it with his boot and realized it was a spear head.That is sweet! I would love to find a spearhead, bad azz. Could the professor age it or tell you anything about the time it was used in? I forgot to add that besides the arrow head I found, I also found a skinning knife made from rock or obsidian on the eastside a few years ago. Can't find the damn thing now though!

Remnants of an old rail road bridge crossing, in a deep canyon. This was above Discovery Bay. I have found several old rail beds from the old days of logging. If you know where to look, there is an old flat bed rail car, laying on the bottom of Ludlow lake, when the suns just right you can see the whole thing.
That's really neat. While hunting along a flat plateau where they used to log, I hunted in there all season with snow on the ground, and didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Next year we were in there with no snow, and there was a three foot chunk of railroad iron laying next to an old railbed. This was two miles in from the trailhead! So no one packed it in. Cool history.

I just remembered the old hand carved springboard I found in a huge cedar stump near Naselle back in the early 90s. I didn't grab it as I was chasing a herd of elk. Always planned to go back and get it, but never did.

nothing but tracks and poop for me. Saturday morning in the Colockum I heard a buck bugling about 200 yds in front of me down in the valley. Would have loved to take a shot BUT it was FOGGY as hell ever. We should have pursued the area but after sitting there for 3 hours and feeling like we had hypothermia, we decided to go back to camp for fire and breakfast. On the return trip, nothing but tracks again
Never knew bucks bugled!! Learn something new every day!

Arrow heads around Rosalia as a kid, full mule skeleton unearthed by wind storm.
I think most interesting item(s) were 2 rusted 50 cal rounds way out in desert by Washtucna. Turns out that area used to be used as a impromptu target range for gunners on bombers in the late 30's into 40's. Probably flew out of the old AFB in Ephtata.

In 2012, I found a Garmin 530hcx while walking into the area I was going to hunt for the evening. When I picked up the radio it was updating someones position. When I started speaking on it. I think I caught the person on the other radio off guard. I told him where I was and met him and his partner who actually lost the radio out on the road. Once we met up I showed them how to poll the location of another radio, a feature they didn't know the Garmin has. Then we all went our own direction.
