Title: Tradidtions Vortek NW Mag
Post by: bigdogg on October 29, 2014, 06:04:49 AM
I just picked up a Vortek NW Mag found a sweet deal on it not knowing it used musket caps, I know on other muzzle loaders you can change out the breech plug or nipple to shoots 209 primers, does anyone know can you do that with the Vortek NW or did the make it so you cant change it because its meant for a specific region? Im in the Midwest so would prefer to use 209 and because I can find them anywhere where the musket caps are a bit harder to find.  One last question the musket caps are different then regular precision caps you can get at any of the outdoor stores correct?

I believe all you need to do is buy a new breech plug for it. Contact Traditions and they will help you out.

DO NOT CHANGE OUT THE BREECH PLUG!  Traditions will tell you to not do this.  When a friend of mine wanted to do this they told them there is a 300th of an inch difference in the plugs which make them not compatible.  A while back people were bashing Traditions because people were closing the breech and the guns would go off.  When I asked if they had changed out the plugs to shoot a different type of primer they all had.  Traditions may be able to go from a musket cap to a 209 (I am not sure), but you can't go from a musket cap to a ............#11.
