I didn't hear them this year though, that was disappointing. It is unnerving and makes for a long night (in a tent by yourself in the middle of nowhere) but at the same time it is also amazing.
I have eaten 3 Grey Wolf tags now, I don't know if I will ever run across one, but the novelty of having one is worth it. Maybe we will get even one day....

I noticed how quiet it was too. Even though I can't hike anymore, I still can get something to answer a call or two. I saw 4 deer in Stites and that was it. There wasn't even hardly any sounds in the areas I went, eerie for sure.

on a serious note id love to hunt wolves, predators have always been my passion. I love hunting deer and elk but its NOTHING compared to predators. Especially calling!

I hear the reason you can't find wolves in Idaho is cause the all moved to the palouse / Pullman area. The wolves are smart and know they are still protected in WA so the relocated with the help of some westside liberals. Idaho no longer has a wolf problem.... :chuckle:

Yeah, good point!! I have heard that some have to shoot 4-20 before they recover one. They are tough animals. :tup: :tup:

Very cool. I love predator hunting and will be moving to pullman next fall. That gives me 10 months to start studying haha. Good luck and keep at it!
You can hunt wolves from August to June into the following year in certain areas if my memory is right. You need to buy the next years license and tag. Pullman to Headquarters Idaho is a good day trip for hunting wolves. Plus Clarkia to Avery and Fernwood areas too.

I saw 4 deer in Stites and that was it.:yike: Dang...I drove through there a month and a half ago and from Kooskia to Grangeville I must have drove past 150+ deer! All on private land of course.

We have deer hunted that area for many years and just recently bought property and built a cabin, if you have any questions i would love to help put a wolf in the dirt!

Ha ha...yes, I have better luck asking permission to hunt on private land when I talk to women too...one lady offered up her husband's blind and everything! If your in Pullman, hunt the area around Elk River, like was mentioned before. We spend a lot of time in that area during the summer and always see lots of tracks. Labor Day 2013 they were howling so close to my camper that they woke me up.

We were camping only about a mile from town. The same weekend I found tracks just above the resivor.
Here's a pic from a few years ago. It was taken on the Upper Basin RD.
