First off, i want to thank everyone on this site who helped me prepare for this hunt.We have some very selfless people on this site. I tried to pay Rt back for the map he sent me in the mail but he kept telling me not to worry about it. Yoterhunter met me over there and showed me a few more spots driving around in his truck. I had to practically beg him to let me pay for his gas. The first week I passed up some nice 5 points and a really nice 5x6. I regret not shooting that one now but I really wanted a perfect 6x6. I did have two encounters with a couple mashers in the timber, but just couldn't get a shot off fast enough. I should have stuck with one area but I was jumping around the unit like a fart in a skillet. Once the spike season began I was not having a lot of luck finding many bulls. Tuesday the 28th was my last day to hunt. I had to get back home to take care of some business. So I told my dad whatever I seen that day was going down. I didn't want to go home empty handed. I went back to one of the spots I had seen one of the mashers and this guy came by me at about 50 yds. It's not the bull I've been dreaming about all summmer but he is quite unique. All in all i had a great time.

That's really a unique trophy that I would love to have. Of course I've never killed an elk, been really close a few times. Muley's are my passion though and the kids can hunt them with me.

Is he a 5x4?

Congratulations what a cool looking bull!

I think that is what I'm going to do with it.

The most unique 5x4 I've ever seen! Congrats!

I saw a bull just like that in the Taneum when my son had the Muzzy big bull tag about 6 years ago. GOOFY

Congrats on a cool looking bull! I saw a similar bull on 1902, I woulda took him for sure later in the hunt!! RT said you might stop by our camp, didn't see ya? Was hoping to connect, maybe next time we draw Peaches :)

I wasn't exactly sure where you were camped. I was so bent on killing a big bull I really didn't even have that much time to hang out in my own camp :chuckle: I wish I would have hooked up with you over there. Maybe we could meet down here sometime. Doesn't sound like we live to far away?

Where you live?

In the process of my first euro mount with this bull. I got all the meat boiled off the skull and I picked up some 40 volume peroxide from sallys beauty salon today. I got some strange looks when I told the lady what I was looking for and what I was using it for :chuckle:Wont be able to finish it till probably next week. I'll post a picture when I'm done.
-
Congratulations on a great bull, he sure had unique antlers! I bet that there is no one else on here with a set of antlers like that! By the way, I like your cooler setup.

Thanks greenhorn :) Here's where I'm at with my euro mount. I had to glue the nose pieces back on . That's why theres a zip tie around it. I got some old barn board I'm thinking of attaching it to next.
-
Great job on the skull, looks great!
-
Got some character there. Congrats.
-
Neat bull, any idea how old he was?

Neat bull, any idea how old he was?
Thanks.Actually he was just a young bull with some funky genetics :chuckle::
-
I think I shot his great, great, great granddaddy Thanksgiving Day back in the eighties! '87 I think :dunno: He was also a 5X4.
Bow - Golden Eagle Talon Mark IV
Arrow - CAE 2117
Broadhead - Razorbak 5
No sight, No release
Speed - 195fps
Distance - 11 yards
Never realized it before today, but I almost looked like a tall D-Rock back then :chuckle:

That's pretty cool radsav! Definitely looks like a long lost relative :chuckle:Sounds like you killed it with some pretty primitive equipment compared to todays standards :archery_smiley:

I've killed a lot of elk over the years. Some that are perfect examples of the species. But this bull remains one of my all time favorites! I had never seen anything like it until seeing your picture. That is pretty cool
He was pretty stupid even by elk standards! I tried to walk across some frozen ground. You know the stuff where the ice crystals raise the dirt up an inch and sound like glass when you walk. It was a horrible day to be out trying to stalk anything. That bull heard the noise and came running to check it out. I knelt down drew my bow and waited to see what was coming. If I hadn't shot at 11 yards I'd have probably been run over. His head was down and he was coming up to me. You can see where the shot entered the throat and exited back by his shoulder blade. Not the smartest shot angle, but it did the trick ;)
Has to be some sort of common gene I would think. Sounds like they were taken within reasonable proximity to one another. Wonder how many generations that would be between them in 27 years? I didn't think mine was any older than 2 1/2 years old. How old would you guess yours was? He looks older than mine, but hard to tell from those pictures.
In my excitement I forgot to say, "Congratulations on your success!" Hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. Wish I had done a euro like you did. Would make it easier to show as he draws more attention than my non-typical 7x7. Everyone gets a kick out of the 5X4 spike! Never thought I would see another one like it...so glad you posted this!!!

Here's a trail camera picture from the same area I got my bull. Definitely something in the water around there :chuckle: I'd say my bull was about the 2 1/2 year range also. I did see another bull taken up there that was a 6x7 . Sounds impressive but it was just a rag horn rack with extra points on the tops.
