Awesome! Not many deer achieve old age... Nice shot!

One buck was serious. One was curious. Can you tell by the hair. :chuckle: It didn't take long for the young kid to realize the old man was serious.

Iron leg??

So many people get fixated on antler size/height/width/mass and as they see a buck like this in the bino's, say to their buddy, 'its just a two point', and move on. When I see 'any deer', buck, doe... Doesn't matter, I watch their mannerisms.. I try to gage their health and age, alertness... What they're browsing. I've been fortunate to have harvested a few older bucks that were likely well beyond their prime for antler growth but were heavy on the hoof. People should appreciate older bucks more even if they don't carry the big rack they once did. They got old by being smart.
Great shot Doug.

I found one more old bugger. I filmed him last year and I bet he is half sized. Same exact spot as last season. I'll get some pics posted.

Hey Bone, I've never heard a mule deer snort wheeze. Is it the same as a whitetail in sound?
-
A bit different but similar. Trying to think how to describe the difference.....Slower, more deliberate.
-
Makes sense, all the whiteys I've heard do it are like:
"FFT-FFT--FSSSSSSS...."
Amazing the sounds that deer can make exhaling and inhaling.
