Anybody have any input/experience with Nikon or this particular scope? I'm looking at a rifle with one on it but would like a leupold for my first hunting rifle.
Thanks,
Danno

I have 2 Nikon's. Both Buckmaster's, 6-18x40 on my 22-250 and the 4.5-14x40 on my 25-06. I love them. Hold their zero vrey well and not to bad on the bank account.

I have three rifles with this Nikon on them. I like them alot. I have one on a .338 win and it still going strong.

Which line within Nikon?
Buckmaster?
Team Primos?

Most Nikon stuff is decent. Depending on specific model it likely compares optically pretty well w/ some of the mid/lower end Leupold stuff. You'd probably be just fine w/ it as long as they aren't trying to get a bunch of extra $ for the rifle/scope combo. Used value of the scopes usually aren't too much.... total WAG but maybe 25-40% of retail.

have a 3-9x40 on my wife's rifle. she likes it.

I have the Nikon Monark 3x9x40,love it. It is now the Team Primos. Great scope for the price. MUch clearer than the Luppy vx-1 IMHO for the same bucks!

I have 2 Nikon Monarchs and had/traded a Buckmaster.
The Monarch were selected over Bushnell elite 4200 and Leupold VX-III for clarity and eyebox.
The Leupolds were almost $300 MORE and had neither better glass or features.
Leupold gouges you for the name and the replacement scope they'll have to send you in a few years.
The Buckmaster I had was a 6-18 Sidefocus and was OK but not real clear or bright at 18X.
Nikon Monarch or Team Primos are very good scopes.

I have the 3X9X40 buckmasters and LOVE it!

I can tell you that Ive put the similar price Leupold beside the nikon and the Nikon is FAR crisper and better light!
I like the Nikons better unless you go up a price range! :twocents: :twocents:

I have several Nikon and Leupold scopes, FWIW I prefer the Nikons, in the field they have performed better in crap conditions :twocents:

Everyone has an opinion, I have read lots of places about Nikons Monarchs and Bushnells 3200,4200 and 6500. I use all Leupolds.
I have yet to look thru a Bushnell or Nikon that impresses me, and yes I have compared side by side many times. 3 friends of mine bought them and have since converted to Leupold. I recently (2 months) bought a Nikon 550 rangefinder for 200.00 at Sport Warehouse, " cause I would not use it very much" what an idiot I am, I sold it yesterday for 150.00 cause it is JUNK.
2 weeks ago I looked thru a Bush 6500 brand new on a Savage predator, I aint the tiniest little bit impressed, with the scope or gun, or "accu-trigger".
just my 2

I looked at Nikon Monarch 3x9-40 next to Leupold VX-III and went with the Nikon. Similar price but I think a brighter view with the Nikon - esp in crap conditions.
Like everybody else- it's just an opinion. I would never bash a Leupold. They wouldn't be as wildly popular as they are if they didn't make good stuff.
-
I think they are both decent scopes but I prefer Leupold myself, Never had a problem with them and I shoot lots of magnum rounds with no scope creep or zero problems, my hunting rifle is a tack driver for sure.
-
I'll take a Monarch over a VX-II everytime, ultra clear, and reliable. Kinda like a sore dick, can't beat em'! grin...
-
Thats quite the anology Jud... been around those inmates a bit too long?
-
I think for the price the nikon is a clearer scope I have a leupold 3x9 now and my next barrel is going to wear the nikon. I might end up replaceing the leupold eventually anyway I have only used it for 2 seasons and want to give it another chance but I hate to admit even the simmons I have is brighter and crisper
-
I just ordered the Team Primos and cant wait for it to get here. I think it is very comparable to the Leupold but the price was way better. As with anything mass produced you can get bad ones. All the scopes mentioned make very nice scopes so for me it comes down to value.

You won't be dissapointed, I .have the Monark that is now the Team Primos from what I understand. Compared it to the VXII and to my eyes it was clearer!
