Got this one opening morning on the west side--just after daybreak.
So it goes- My hunting partner and I split. He took the high part of the ridge and I took the low. We know that they were in there because we put them to bed there. As i was working my way to the low part I was pouting like a 5 year old because he had the better area. But luck would have it the wind was blowing in my favor. The heard (about 20-25) caught sent of my buddy and came racing down the hill. As I stood there wondering what the crap this loud noise was the first cow broke into sight of me. That's when I knew what was going on.
I threw my gun up and realizied that my scope was set on 8 power and it was not going to work for a 25 yard shot. Mind ya - the heard is on full run thru the woods. I never had time to anything, hide or find a rest. then he appeared- a rack from heaven racing thru. The only thing I had time for was roll the gun and barrel shoot. So I did. He rared up like a horse getting rode for the first time and landed on his back, he was down!!! Neck shot!! Don't know which one to thank-luck or skill? either way a 4 x 4 is looking good in our fridge.

Right place...Right time...Then the rest is up to you. A question though. Since your hunt was over before it really started, would you have preferred getting him later in the season? I shot a bull opening day of archery this year and someone asked me that same question. I said no! I got mine and that's what counts.
