Have access to a blind for late archery hunt. For those that use a blind, do you shoot thru the mess windows or have you removed them.
-
I prefer not to shoot through the mesh
-
Thru
-
I have always removed the mesh.
-
Remove....Make sure you have room to move...either with a rifle or bow if you need to draw. Darker clothes blend in better with the background inside the blind.
-
I had concerns about shooting through the mesh...no more. 3 deer killed in my blind this year with bow...fixed blade broad heads shot flawless.
-
I destroyed one of my mesh windows to test this for you. I saw no loss in trajectory or accuracy out to 50 yards. Didn't test further. Keep the windows up and stay hidden.
-
For the shoot thru crowd.......do you worry about the mesh being tight? My thinking when I hunted this season was if the mesh was nice and tight it would just go right through. However, I worried that if the mesh came loose it would be pulled along a bit and possibly "snag" the arrow a bit and just jack everything up. I've only loosed one arrow from a blind so my experience is limited.

Not sure what your setup will be? Ours is 13yds for elk at a water hole. We have shot three bulls with the mesh down and no issue. I would not sit in the blind with it up. It being down helps out tremendously when in tight quarters with the game. Always where black shirt or coat and a black face mask as well. Good Luck!

I kept it loose and tight and it was unaffected. I'd keep it tight but for the life of me the better question is why I keep dragging my blind around with me on hunt after hunt when I've never shot anything out of it :o

I have used my dark horse blind for 7ys now .always no mesh, just have dark clothes and a face mask. try it for yourself , put someone inside walk back and look. don't draw your bow if sunlight is on you, that's the only mistake I have made. :twocents: I love mine stay warmer and can move around a bit. good luck.

I had similar worries. I kept it as tight as possible during hunting season just because it made me more comfortable...but like BC, I did substantial pre-season testing and found no issue with fixed blade broadheads. I've read internet rumors of problems with mechanicals and field points.
The only other thing I would add...all my testing/shooting was an early archery warm weather scenario. A bunch of freezing rain or something building up on the mesh in late season would be something to keep an eye on...under extreme conditions you would have to take the mesh down so you can see, but more subtle ice formation on that mesh I have no idea how that may affect things.

I like to film my hunts, so the mesh has to go.
I like to be set up down hill a bit from the deer and 22 to 25 yards away when possible.
-
Mesh is great... we have never taken it down... does not effect anything and it conceals you even more.
-
After my first year hunting out of my Dbl Bull, I'll definitely be spending more time in it. My wife and I both shot our deer out of it with the mesh down but after reading about all the testing by you guys, I'll probably put it up for better concealment next year.
-
Two turkeys and two deer shot through the mesh, no problems at all.
-
I have done both but I try to shoot with the mesh open. One thing I didn't see anyone say is to make sure you keep your upper half erect. I have seen a lot of people slouch because they are in a sitting position and miss there animals. When your practicing and standing up your body is up and erect when you sit down everything slouches so keep that in mind.

Hunting from a blind is a great way to stay out of the weather.
I have taken 3 deer and 4 coyotes from my pop-up.
I have the screen up and yes making sure dark clothing is worn.
And practice shooting from your blind makes a big difference.
Different stances,Knees, One knee sitting, on a chair all is different from normal stance and takes a little getting used to .Atleast I found out for me extra practice was required.

My buddy is in blind today first time ever and 8 deer walk by 30-50 yds this morning and still waiting for BIG BUCK to walk by soon.... It should work.
