Your going to scare the rest of the traditional guys away with that thing :chuckle:

That guy's a monster! Nice job!
-
Open country 50 yard longbow shot on a doe. Dropped in her tracks. No need for a follow up. Thanks for that because that canyon she came up from is nasty.

C'Mon guys lets see some more!

Great pics Bone and fine job!

Nice job on the Bull TK! You traditional guys are bad mothers!!
Howdy Jason! Long time no hear, how you been doing?
Great muley bucks Bone! Have never killed a mule deer, heck, have never really pursued them for that matter.
-
Nice kills guys. Some real nice blacktail TK. Maybe you put bone on a blacktail and hell show ya his muley spot. :dunno: this makes me want to get a traditional kill even more.
-
Nice job on the Bull TK! You traditional guys are bad mothers!!
...........shut your mouth Shaft. ( hope you're old enough to know what I mean )
-
Awesome ....Treekiller has killed some nice Blacktails
-
Wow, those pics are great. I've wanted to take my longbow out, but I'm always worried some critter will give me a 40+ yard shot that I won't be able to take. Maybe I'll reconsider though because there's something poetic about having a longbow or recurve there in the hero shot.
-
I've had that happen Gboyd. That's part of the thrill.
-
Wow Treekiller, you should be proud of those.
-
Tree Killer you are very skilled!!! Loved the input on BTC. I need to get back there to read some more information.
-

Yeah way to long TK! I'm doing good.
Getting excited, I've got late archery blacktail coming up next weekend, so I'll see if I can rattle me in a love struck buck!
-
Bone is that a WA Moose?
Holy smokes!!!!
-
Bone...now that's what dreams are made of!!
-
Wow! Great job guys! Tree killer, I hope to be as successful as you some day. I love the Longbow. Is the yew?
-
My buddy Randy last September in Colorada. We bugled it in and Randy shot it at 6 yards, direct frontal shot. The bull had red eyes and was slobbering on Randy's boots, almost. Randy's bow is a homemade yew selfbow 60#@29". Cedar arrow with Magnus two blade Broadhead. It ran 50 yards and piled up.
-
Thanks guys! Great moose Bone, was that a Washington bull?
Nice work Scotsman, bet your buddy was excited when that was at 6 yds!
Tree Killer you are very skilled!!! Loved the input on BTC. I need to get back there to read some more information.
Seems like a century ago doesn't it The Hunt? Haven't looked at BTC in 4-5 years? I keep up with a few folks from Oregon and Washington thru email and facebook.

Thanks guys. That was my Alaskan moose. I got my Washington moose with my compound, pre ditching of the training wheels. :chuckle:

I'm only good to 25 yds, so my range is limited. You have to not only learn how to shoot, but how to hunt! Hard to explain, but getting close is what turns MY clock.
This is a bull I killed on the infamous 9-11-2001
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv117%2Ftreekiller%2Ftrophy%2520photos%2FRons2001Bull2.jpg&hash=645240f34ac015d4bb974e2902ddaa2a133c35cc) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/treekiller/media/trophy%20photos/Rons2001Bull2.jpg.html)
One year later, 9-11-2002, this bull fell to a douglas fir arrows. Both were taken with my old Brackenbury Drifter. I retired the bow when I bought the Blacktail.

I need a stick bow. This thread is sweet. Nice animals.
-
They are a lot of fun DIY.
I had my bow made with my Alaskan hunt in mind. You'll note the white arrowhead. I purchased it from a Inuit or however you spell it. Its carved out of Ivory. I had hornseeker put it into my bow when he made it. I was hoping for some good JUJU, and apparantly it worked.
-
Nice job on the elk Tree Killer. I think I have only killed one with my Trad bow. I can post a pic but most of you have seen it.
-
Getting close is a rush even if you don't get a shot. Last season I was so close I could hear the elk breathing and chewing their food. It was incredible. About 10ft. Had bushes between me and them. Tree killer I know what you mean about getting close. In the off season I like to practice and see how close I can get.
-
I've been using the recurve now for the past several seasons. I have not yet taken any big game with it, but I have been closer to more animals than I ever got with the compound. It all starts the second you get out of the truck and start walking in. Having the stickbow in my hand I know that I need to get close and begin by being very quiet and conscious with my every move. Hunting with the recurve has definitely made me a better hunter. The trophies will come with time. Great pic's you guys, hope to share one soon.
-
I think that's what I'll ask the wife for, for Xmas. Thanks for the inspiration.
-
Love this thread

I've been questioning if I should hunt elk with one of my longbows. Seeing all the successful kills makes me want to go for it. Nice job guys!
-
I can only ever remember seeing one guy in the woods with a traditional bow and home made arrows. I thought it was cool but felt sorry for him because, you know, he'd never be able to kill anything with it. I have since revised my thinking. Love the pics, guys.
-
Thanks HS
The first couple kills I had Band, I was hunting Modern rifle with my longbow. You should have seen the looks I got when I met people while packing out my buck(s). I'm sure I got turned in by a couple of them too. :chuckle: Them thinking I was taking advantage of something I guess. I was applying for modern permits, but wanted to hunt with my bow, so I hunted modern.
-
:chuckle:
-
A hunting mentor I had when I was kid told me, "The mark of a good Hunter isn't how far away you can kill 'em, it's how close you can kill 'em. Here is a bear taken on the ground at 10 yards. That'll get your adrelenine pumping. By the way, I made the bow and arrows too. Icing on the cake.
-
That's awesome
-
-
Very Cool Scotsman...
I would like to whack a critter at 5 or 6 hundred someday... because I like the challenge of putting that whole deal together (Im not talking winging bullets out there.. Im talking settling in and squeezing the trigger knowing my bullet is gonna whack him square at 500+..)... but... I MUCH more want to whack one at 5 or 6 yards!! With my LB... Not into arrow making yet... maybe someday...
-
I've done both Ernie and I am pretty sure you know which one I found more rewarding.

Already posted in the 2014 bull thread. My first big game trad kill, my second archery bull. The bow is nothing too special, it's a plain jane 1969 Bear Alaskan I picked up in a second hand store, but it is 62" and draws 50#@28", with my 30" draw she pulls a wee bit more. Feather fletched 340 ICS hunters and 125gr. magnus buzz cuts. Still wanting to take an animal with a bow I've built myself, maybe next year. Unfurtunatly I shot this bull on a friday, and lost my camera that sunday while TUNA fishing, had 1500 pics on the card documenting my trad build progress :'( replaced the cam can't replace the pics :'( :'( :'(
-
That stinks about your photos. I've lost a photo card here and there or a roll of film at the processor. Makes you sick in the guts. Congrats on the nice bull.
-
Nice Bull! And it's also interesting to see how many people want the "newest, best" bow when so many great bows from the 60's and 70's are out there.
-
Awesome buck "bone"!

Congrats on the first stickbow kill TONTO...well done! Sorry to hear about losing the pics, total bummer!
If we take up donations for you to buy a quiver with a hood that covers your broadheads, would you please buy one and use it? Hate to see you stab yourself bud!!!!!

I think Washington has a big football game today...Apple Cup?
There's a big game down here in Oregon as well. I killed this buck in 2009 the day after the Oregon Ducks beat Oregon State in the Civil War. I wore a shirt to rub it in for a few friends.
The first blacktail I killed from a treestand, he came in downwind and followed the scent line to a tarsal gland I had hung on a limb in front of my stand.
(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv117%2Ftreekiller%2Ftrophy%2520photos%2F2009buck3.jpg&hash=b7699a463e92a49ac8de6a7b499814835d7aa64f) (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/treekiller/media/trophy%20photos/2009buck3.jpg.html)

Oregon sure does produce some nice looking blacktail. That's a beauty!

what year was that bone?

2005 I think. Possibly 2006.

My one and only traditional archery kill. Shot at 7 yards in northern Idaho with a Sapphire Hawk bow. Piled up 35 yards after the shot!!

Wow... what a thrill, that's definitely living right there. Tougher than me though... I don't think I'd want to be that close to a bear unless I had a guy behind me with a gun in case I missed and became lunch!
-
I bet that bear got your heart pumping. He's a beauty!
He was the thrid bear into the bait, he came in sweet talking a little blonde sow and then noticed a big pile of strawberry flavored popcorn, lost all interest in the sow and made a 90 degree turn and came right into the bait. It was awesome! :)
-
My first trad kill, shot earlier this year in SE AK.
-
Sweet. Quiet and deadly so you aren't ringing the dinner bell for Big Brown.
-
Very exceptional guys.........

2 days and I'll hopefully be contributing! Let's get this thread full this year!

Hanging my bow up this year because of family troubles. Looking forward to living vicariously through fellow enthusiasts this year.

So excited!!! My first year with a recurve/bow... going for deer and elk!
Just finishing up sharpening up some woodsmen and zwickey eskimos... can't decide which one I want to go with. They both shoot good from my bow, probably just take both for the fun of it.
-
That sucks Bone. Always wait for your stories. Hope all works out!!!! Good Luck
-
Sorry to hear it Boneaddict

Mulies

Muley
-
Nice bucks!!
-
This bull was shot by my hunting partners friend. I'm posting it because it illustrates "shot placement is everything". A 44# recurve, sharp 2 blade broadhead and patience are key.
-
Thanks for sharing the great pic's and stories I hope to have one on here some time. Squidward
-
My first trad deer. It was as exciting as taking my first deer with a compound. 12 yard shot.
-
Great deer guys!
Hopefully I can post up one latter this month. :)
