Wow. Can't imagine being that close.
-
Composure at its finest. Wow.
-
Holy carp! That's amazing. No desire at all to hunt Kodiaks with a bow. None.
-
:yeah: :yike:
-
I don't think I would have been able to stand there, I would have ran :chuckle: awesome video though
-
WOW!!! No way :yike: :yike: Take a minute and watch that video!! Way cool!

That's just crazy. :yike:

Really, you need to have a rangefinder.... :chuckle:

I thought the same thing....a roll of toilet paper would have been way more useful. :chuckle: :chuckle:

:yeah: :yeah:Exactly what I was typing.

RANGE FINDER? In the trigger hand?
Way more confident than I.
The go pro footage was the best.
-
Good old Colver stood in there like a champ and delivered the knock out punch👍

Well, if they had a better range on him the first shot they may not have been in that situation. A few more steps on that second shot wouldn't have hurt either.
That is one heck of a good guide keeping calm and waiting till the last possible moment to put a bullet in what was hoped to be a bow kill. Looks like a whole hoot load of fun to me!! I'm looking forward to doing that in a few years

That guy has got to have a pair bigger than the ones I have seen on the sheep threads this year and they must be brass also.
Wow!

Who WOULDN'T want to have that kind of experience? That has me wanting to book a trip today! How freakin' exciting is that?! I could have a heart attack and die a happy hunter right then and there. That's awesome!!!
-
I might be a little more dependable of a cameraman. That guy almost got them killed

I was thinking the same thing! Though the guide may have just thrown him to the ground and we couldn't tell. Good story to tell the grandkids either way
-
Go Pro mounted to the backup gun is the way to go. The camera guy always cuts and runs :chuckle:. Screaming when the bear is under 10 yards and wounded does NOT help! Doing this will only allow the charging bear to get a better bead on the guide and hunter. Also, another example of how you can never have too much gun while hunting on Kodiak.

If you do book a Kodiak hunt Rad, give Bob May a call at Whale Pass Lodge. I grew up hunting with Bob and his family, they are awesome people and will put you on some huge bears.

Thank you for the tip!
Seems I've stumbled onto that name in my research. Whomever I book with I hope they are as solid and patient as the guide in that video. IMO that was text book on his part...other than letting the hunter shoot that second shot when he did. Though the hunter may have just made that decision on his own :dunno:

Bob and his family have been guiding bear hunters for 25+ years on Kodiak. He has 2 remote lodges on the north end of Kodiak(Afognak Island). His sons and I grew up hunting on the island and he taught me a ton about bears and hunting in general.
Afognak has some of the largest bears on the island.

I pooo'd my pants
Anyone looking for signature material?
-
This was an Afognak Bear. Just an FYI.
-
That was pretty awesome... can you imagine if that shot didn't hit home... ugly....
Crappy first shot huh?low and back?

Do they make Depends in Camo?
-
Those guys certainly have a bigger set than I do. :yike:
-
:yike: That was awesome ..The ultimate bowhunters experience :brew:
-
Hell at that range I think an old school spear hunt should be in order! Go all caveman on that bear! Now that would be some excitement!

I wouldn't worry about the camo, maybe something in a scent lock material.
