My older brother and I love to hunt ducks, go all the time but we thought it might be fun to get a guide and go goose hunting over winter break. Been looking at a few on the internet but its hard to tell who is good. Any Suggestion??
-
Bill Saunders is a good option. Eagle lakes. Paul Sullivan. A few decent options and they have been posting up a ton of hunting pictures lately.
-
Id book with big guns. Bill saunders, John Plugoff, mike, etc flat out kill birds.

I've always gone to Aaron Echternkamp for the past 7 years or so. Many of the other suggestions which will be offered on this thread will be good too but Aaron always seems to have things dialed.

East side or west side? No nothing about west, but Eagle Lakes would be my 1st choice on east side. Went there a few times 5+ years ago and had some good goose and duck hunts. One time got the goose egg but was able to get another hunt in at no extra cost to me which at the time they guarantee you will have limit opportunity. But if you can't shoot then that is the hunters problem and pay up.

Echternkamps any day time, great guides, great people, and as said above, they have their sh#$ dialed in. Ask to hunt with Brandon, he's a GOOD duck caller.
-
My boss goes with Echternkamps every year and has a great hunt and time.. they always request a guy by the last name Martinez.. says he puts the birds down and is a great guy!

I went with bill saunders big gun outfitters a couple years back. The guide, John Plughoff is a friend of mine and an excellent goose/duck hunter. You will have a great time. It was a blast.(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftapatalk.imageshack.com%2Fv2%2F14%2F11%2F17%2F3a1d4638f4c52b342a16c6918d8cfd90.jpg&hash=e8f4658e3c892abf0714288441fdb11f8247055b)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftapatalk.imageshack.com%2Fv2%2F14%2F11%2F17%2Ff01485b0e2ed8c4efd5cd894a8437a9e.jpg&hash=bb2e3ba501e4a4072d397c346393c84397262a30)(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftapatalk.imageshack.com%2Fv2%2F14%2F11%2F17%2Fae722bc18c0960e70271d12c5f1fcf99.jpg&hash=94151a33c1175c910fd5ab7193dbbbfa00612276)

Last time I made a call about goose hunting it was gonna cost me $500 for my son and I but that was a few years back. I didn't go based on the cost and the fact that it is a free for all when geese come in. No regulated shooting. Everyone unloads no matter what comes in untill birds quit falling and/or shells run out. Not my cup of tea.

Is it a standard practice with guided goose hunts to let the birds land in the decoys and then shot them as they lift or does it depend on the guide?

:yeah: John is a good guy I went to college with him- I have never hunted with him but I know that he knows his stuff when it comes to bird hunting. If I ever would go on a guided hunt I would be going to him

I wouldn't overlook pacific wings.

Depends on the guide. Most do it because most clients can't shoot. Honkers getting up are easier targets.

Best way to get the group to limit out and get them off the field quickly to rest it. Gives the guide more time to scout as well. Less birds are educated as well. Just a few flocks get pounded vs. a hole bunch of flocks with only 1-2 birds getting taken. Than you risk those flocks not coming back.

Agreed - I'd only hunt with Aaron Echternkamp if I wanted a great hunt. If you're paying that kind of money anyway - may as well hunt with the best.
-
Aaron Echternkamp lives to hunt, I know they kill some birds...

:yeah: I've see it way too many times, 12 - 15 shots and maybe one wounded bird.

Best 'GO' I have seen with the land method is 28. It's very effective.

I've been hunting with Aaron where clouds of ducks and hundreds of geese have landed more than once. The video below was years ago with a crappy camera but sometimes it's just about being in the right spot - again and again and again. Echternkamp.

Honk Stomper Guide Service........in Moses Lake. Check them out on Facebook.
-
One thing to ask the guide about are they getting a higher percentage of Honkers or lessers? IME Moses Lake area has more big Honkers and the Tri Cities more lessers.
-
:yeah: Also Yakima Valley has 95% Big Geese 8)
