I found a inexspensive shell at sportsman, rios. 10.99 for 3" and 11.99 for 3 1/2's. I've been using them for 2 seasons now.

i've been shooting 1 1/8oz 3" rio loads this year.  bought them cabelas when they had them on sale for $89 bucks a case, figured they'd help keep me from burning up my "good" nitro steel loads.  now i'm wishing i'd bought another case or two, as they seem to be excellent performing loads.

once we get past mid december the 10 gauge will come out again.  just wish i could find some BBB or T shot loads locally.  got lots of BBs.

Remeington Hyper Sonic #2's in 3 1/2

I dont decoy or even call anymore, just passover shooting in sagebrush. So some shots are 50-60 plus for geese and ducks. These loads work best of any! But they are spendy...

The best??  They tear up auto guns and because they are so fast, guys get luckier at long range, because it shortens your lead.  Makes up for those that can't get the lead down and typically shoot behind the birds.   :twocents:  If you want good, go with a higher density metal that carries better, more energy down range and figure out the leads.

Gotta be careful with hypersonic loads to. They advertise no extra pressure in chamber due to two stage ignition. But lots of chokes are only designed for 1550fps. I fused a choke to my barrel in a gun using this load in a 3 inch shell only putting one box through the gun. Won't ever shoot them again just to be on safe side.

Been shooting them out of my WSX3 for three years now. Not one issue. I hunt birds alot and have found with these shells I dont get cripples.  Never had a jam and they flat out have range that I cant use any other shells for, trust me I have tried.  Like I said I dont call or use decoys, strictly passover shots that most guys could not make. Not bragging at all but they work the best in my hunting setup.  Very little lead needed on birds.

Where did you find Rio at that price? Rio is fast becoming my favorite.

After cutting two barrels up i have found that most fused tubes are due to wad plastic built up in between the tube threads and barrel.

Wads have come a very long way since the early days of steel shot so it's really not hard to find good waterfowl ammo these days. Most all of it is great.
I like a Patternmaster Choke in the extended range model so I can shoot any quality load except Blind Side and Black Cloud which need a constriction only choke for their wad design.
Kent Fasteel has worked darn good for me for years. I switch to Hevi-Metal for late season heavily feathered birds when the killing distances increase.
I'd say the biggest knowledge about ammo is to know it's limitations. Just because you broke a few clay targets at 60 - 70 yds doesn't mean you can effectively kill ducks at those distances. Clay targets break super easy. One pellet from a light skeet load will break one at 50+ yds.

cabelas in lacey has them, but i think the regular price is $119 a case.  they had them for $89, then $99 a little while back.

Give em' the cold steel, Kent Steel!

Interesting input on the Rio, might give that a try as it is a bit cheaper, for now...

I look for and like to shoot 1 1/4oz loads in 2 3/4" or 1 3/8oz in 3". I will shoot just about anything for the right price. I like BBs for geese, but #6 up to BBs for ducks. the 6s grind 'em over decoys.
