A number of factors have come together this year, or fallen apart, or however you want to look at it... and I am spending Thanksgiving (actually Wednesday afternoon till Sunday) in a wall tent in the mountains of Central Montana!! Im not even sure this is the right forum for this discussion, but there will be a lot of cooking going on... so why not! I have always wanted to spend Thanksgiving, hunting in the mountains, at a wall tent camp... the time has come!! I will be with an amazing woman that loves the mountains as much as I and has an unnotched elk tag in her pocket still... I will have a clean edged deer tag in my pocket...
We tossed ideas around as to what to have for Thanksgiving dinner... well... we are both crazy Taco conniseurs and and decided it was full out taco bar!! All the fixins... Fresh fried corn tortillas... elk burger for filling along with avocado, tomato, cilantro, jack cheese, garlic, lime... black beans... jalepenos... hmmm, what am I missing here? Its gonna be tacos all day... breakfast tacos of corn torts with egg and cheese and bacon filling... then the big taco bar for lunch and dinner....
Anyone else doing anything not so traditional for Thanksgiving??

Your so lucky!! Sounds awesome. Have a great time.

I haven't been to a Thanksgiving in over 10 years and won't again this year. I have spent some in odd places with odd meals but I was never a big fan of Thanksgiving anyway so it doesn't bother me a bit.
-
Nice hope you both notch your tags
Two years ago me and a buddy had a sp muzzy elk tag for T day week. Off we went it was all good fun. Then T-day came and I felt weird not being with my wife, yes I missed her. When I got back with my tag in hand :bash:. I told Dana that this was the last holiday hunt for me, unless she go's. That pretty much ended my holiday hunts since she doesn't ;)

Sounds too good to be true. Maybe you could send up some pics of your camp & the feast? :)
-
Ill be in a tent bymyself in 101 :chuckle:
-
We used to do a wall tent thanksgiving every year. I miss it
-
You are living the dream my friend!
Now that you've teased us, we're going to need some follow-up pictures when you get back. :hello:
-
There should be allot of hunters having traditional and non traditional feasts on Thursday. I know our camp is having a traditional feast up Milk creek road somewere.

We'll be over there as well. No tent though. We've been going to our cabin every Thanksgiving and Christmas for the last 4 years. We'll be doing some predator hunting with our new FoxPro Fusion, I'm really looking forward to that. I plan on cooking a 5-6 pound prime rib roast on an old school Faberware rotisserie for Thanksgiving dinner. I make a paste out of powered au jus, rub the roast with it, kosher salt, onion powder and pepper. Then we get to painfully watch that sucker cook on the rotisserie for several hours... aahhh the smell  To top everything off we'll watch the Seahawks attempt to win another game :dunno: :chuckle:. Not that there is anything wrong with hanging with the family for the holidays, but for all you rebels that skip the big family gatherings for the holidays here's to you :brew:

Horn,
I couldn't be happier for you! May you have enough snow for hunting and wall tent atmosphere, yet not so much that you lay in bed wondering if you will get out.
Cheers from a Flatlander!

Thanks all for the well-wishes. I am real excited, and so is the company Im taking!
As for snow, Im a tad nervous.... I wasn't expecting it to get much more till today and tonight, but the hills above camp have received 8-17 inches already and are forcasted for 10-20 more now... I just threw four chains in the truck. I am hoping the tent being at a slightly lower elevation is gonna mean it has MUCH less snow when we get there...and its not smooshd already!!!
Anyhow, I promise I"ll take lots of pics and share when I get back!! Hopefully with more dead critters!
Happy THanksgiving ALL!
AND HuntNW... cant wait for your report... seems you always have some big good lookin critter to share at the end of the season!

hmmm, what am I missing here?
Dos Equis or Tequila :dunno:
-
Best to leave the beans at home if you know what I mean ;)
-
nah...we both love beans... they are the magical fruit...
Hmm.... yes... beer. Probably not Dos equis... NOT tequila... I am not a tequila fan unless its all mooshed together with a bunch of margarita mix and such...
Probably bring a good red blend... or shiraz along...
Gonna be cold and snowy...
-
Make a batch of apple pie moonshine and drink it warm

Never had a margarita snow cone...sounds pretty good!
-
What time is dinner? :chuckle:
-
Probably about one oclock... after morning hunt... before evening hunt. Hopefully the taco meal will be augmented with fresh deer or elk tenderloin!!!
-
We got alot of snow yesterday, gonna warm up some than start getting cold again by the weekend. Good luck, I'll prob sneak in a morn hunt tomorrow as I still have both my deer and elk tags
-
I think Im gonna have to chain up in the dark this early evening just to get to my camp... That does not make me happy... BUT... once Im there... ahhhhh.... yes... mmm hmmm.
Town, which is 700 feet lower and out of the mountains has about 7 inches right now and its still snowing... up the hill a ways, about 800 feet above camp there is a reported 17 inches... SO I guess maybe camp has 10-14 inches right now... with more coming down as I sit in Billings waiting to leave at 1!!!!

I have only missed one thanksgiving in my life and it was because of hunting. Never again will I let that happen again.
-
Well How were the Taco's, the hunting and anything else you can share about the wall tent Thanksgiving? ;)
-
Not a wall tent but still a canvas tent in all sorts of crazy weather with great people, crappy hunting and a 7 total hour trip to town to eat grub and right back to camp. Good times.

Thanksgiving supper by a campfire, drinking a cold beer and listening to the hawks game. Not too shabby

As soon as I got home, set it up in the yard and was completely dry in 36 hours even in the sub 30 degree temps, with sun shining. A lot better than I thought.
