we got out of school early today so I figured I would go hunt for a bit before work. grabbed my best buddy, ran home got my bow and some camo and headed out. Parked at a gate I seen some bucks in during the early season. come across the corner and see a doe pop out of the alders. didn't figure there was a buck with her but ya never know so I told my buddy to get in the ditch. sitting for a few minutes thinking about how good those tender doe backstraps would be.. only my second deer, late season, debating on if I should shoot her or not when I hear a limb crack and a grunt.(never heard a blacky do that before) then he popped out. I kept thinking to myself don't look at the horns, don't look at the horns. asked my buddy the yardage.. 43 yards. he never even looked my way. drew back, settled, put my finger on the release and the rest is history. found him 20 minutes later about 50 yards from where I hit him. I feel so blessed to not only harvest my best buck but my first archery buck and have my best friend at my side. while I did it. had him gutted drug to the truck and 3/4 skinned before I had to go to work. as I sit here and type this levi just shot me a text that said hes hanging and the heads at my taxidermists house!

Nice buck, and sweet rack on him. Always smart not to focus on the antlers too much, could have given yourself buck fever. That has got to feel good getting the first one with a bow, and to top it off make that memory with your buddy!

Well done!
