My uncle died last night he was 69. Didn't smoke or drink. He was born in holland in 1945 his family fled nazi occupation during Ww2 and immigrated to e. Washington and became farmers. During his summers while attemding CWU he was a smoke jumper for the Forest service. After graduation from CWU he joined the USMC during Vietnam and became a 2nd Lt. He then went into 1st force recon. In 1970 while leading a 12 man team he was surrounded by 50 north Vietnamese soldiers he was severely wounded in the neck face and lower leg by an Grenade and rpg attack. He lost several men that night. It took him nearly a year to recover in a navy hospital. Sharpmetal remained in his head and face. He then went on and receive a masters degree and worked for a police agency. He had some amazing stories and one was mentioned in a force recon book. However, they think his Alzheimer's disease may be link to his Injuries from the war. Anyway I wanted to post this as a tribute to him and his service for his country and to our family. He was a hero.
