I've been throwing up pictures of my Golden Bell, now six months old. She had a freak accident playing/rough housing in the snow with her mom and broke her right hind humerus. So sad she was in such pain. I'm talking with the ortho surgeon and going with a pinning/screw surgery as opposed to an FHO. She was set to start upland bird training in 48 hours. :'(
Just when I thought I'd have some cool stories and pictures for H-W.

That sucks, man. Hope she has a speedy recovery.
-
Sorry to hear!

That is too bad, it is amazing wha they do while playing, I know I have had a few moments where I thought one of our pups was surely hurt. So far, so good, maybe just lucky :dunno:. You will still have pictures and stories to post on here and we are looking forward to many tales of you and your soon to be bionic pup.

Hope your pup has a speedy recovery.

Looking forward to pics and stories following her speedy recovery.

My condolences! :(
I hope she recovers quickly. Still looking forward to photos with your little gal!

So ends 2014 season. And, rehab begins.
I am so greatful that the hip and socket are salvageable though. :'(

Sorry to hear of Bell's accident, that is a crazy place for the bone to break.
It is amazing what the surgeons can do. Our dog, Loki, seperated the growth plate off the top of her femur when she was about 9 months old. A few screws and some time to heal and she did well, but she was mostly grown. Her back leg curved a little but did not seem to be an issue.
We hope your Bell gets through her surgeries well and has a speedy and successful recovery.

Man thats a bummer, that break looks pretty brutal. Dogs are alot tougher than humans and hope she recovers fast and healthy.
-
It is a highly unusual break. I'm really sad. It is amazing what vets can do. I'm impatiently waiting to hear how the surgery went.
-
Sorry to hear the bad news, must have been heartbreaking......She is a great looking dog.....hoping for a speedy recovery you her.

The surgery went as well as I could hope for. Part of recovery is 7 weeks of crating to prevent her from rebreaking the bone. That's going to be really hard for her.
-
That is really sad. I wish her a good recovery.
-
I see a lap dog, at least temporarily. :chuckle: Hope her recovery goes smoothly. The hardest part for us was just knowing the pain and discomfort ours was in during the healing and not being able to explain to the dog that it will get better.
-
Loki, pain control has been the biggest issue. She is still at the clinic because of it. I hope to have her home tonight. I bought a Taj Mahal of a crate for her.

Sorry to hear about your pup. My girlfriend and I went through 6 months of rehab with my 6 year old female lab with back to back TPLO surgeries. It was hard with a 6 year old active lab so I can only imagine what it is and will be like for a young, active puppy that has absolutely no understanding of what is going on and whey she can't just run and play like she wants to. Good for you for taking care of her though. One thing about it, they are resiliant, tougher than most people, and bounce back quicker. Keep her away from the incision and watch for infection and she'll be back to her old self in a few months.

Sweet little Liberty Bell is home. She can't walk without a sling assistant to support her weight. While these surgeries are not cheap I am so very greatful to Dr. Ty Johnson and the team at Cascade Veterinary Clinic for the care they provided her.

Wishing your pup all the best! At least she has plenty of space in there.. :)
-
How's the pup doing. I hope she is on the road to recovery.
-
Any updates?

Poor pup :( Hoping for a speedy recovery
-
Gnarly break! Poor pup, hope she's been healing well.

Update:
Bell had the surgical pins removed the other day. Her Xrays look very promising and she is getting around well. The surgical Vet was Dr Johnson at Cascade Veterinary Clinic in Wenatchee. He did an amazing job.
Being crated for six weeks and still not really being allowed to fully be a high energy pup has to taken a toll. She chews and digs out of frustration I'd assume. Which she never did before. (My poor wife) one more week and she should be 100% in the clear. All in the cost was just south of $3600.00
I guess I'm advocating pet insurance. I sure would have liked to have it.
I hope to have some good hunting stories for 2015.

Infections required drain tubes and 2 additional weeks recovery. And the cone of shame. She's a lamp shade.

Oh, Ow. Sorry to hear about the setback. Hopefully she can be up and around and work on getting her strength back as she finishes healing up.
