Title: ABC inland empire Cheney
Post by: KFhunter on December 04, 2014, 10:35:51 AM: Considering joining the ABC in Cheney, is this a good club? active?

Idaho club is a long ways out but it looks far more active.

My pup is nominated futurity so I wouldn't mind running her in that and then perhaps all age.

Post by: jetjockey on December 04, 2014, 11:36:47 AM: I've heard it's a decent club. Have you run your dog off horse? There's not a ton of Brits that have the range to be All Age dogs. Even some of the dogs that run on the West coast as All Age dogs are really Gun/Shooting Dogs. Same with some of the dogs on the East coast.

even in the futurity they say dogs that range to extreme edge would have an advantage over a closer working dog. The pup I have would be a big range big runner if I chose to let her.

what's a good route to go that'd work with a close in dog? ABC has a grouse championship I see anything leading up to that?

Post by: jetjockey on December 04, 2014, 11:50:28 AM: It's more up to the dog then you. Adults in the ABC run either as Gun Dogs or All Age dogs. It's easier to bring an AA dog in then it is to push a Gun Dog out. My dog started out as a GD before she started ranging out to AA range. The trainer let her go go more and more as she got older and now she's given full range. But, she knows the difference between hunting and trialing. It's not uncommon for her to make 800 yard casts off of a horse, but she typically stays inside 200 off foot when hunting. In other words, don't be afraid of an All Age dog to foot hunt off of. If you don't have a horse, you will mostly be limited to walking Gun Dog trials. There are several around the PNW put on by several different clubs.

I don't know much about the ABC's grouse championship but I'm going to guess that's something run in the Midwest or East Coast?? If that's an all breed event then I can say for a certainty that most all of the dogs running in those events will be of some, if not all, all age horseback dog breeding.

Grouse trials are a Pointer and setter dominated world. In Coverdog there has been only one Brittany to my knowledge that performed truly well in grouse trials against the setters and Pointers, the dog was called Wambli and was handled by a guy named Ken Delong.

Post by: JayBird02 on December 04, 2014, 01:40:15 PM: The Inland Empire club runs two FT events each year. They aren't bad club and might be able to get you into contact with some other clubs. The Oregon ABC has some very active members that trial all over WA, OR, CA, and Idaho. They also run 2 walking trials and two horseback trials a year. I also live in Eastern WA and unfortunately there isn't a lot of trials on the east side of the state. Most are ran at Scatter Creek.

The NW NSTRA group is very active. They have events from April-June that are ran from the Spokane area down the the Tri Cities.
