Just looking for pictures (field or after the shot) of mule deer bucks that go over 150". Post pictures with the scores if you would please!!! I'm wanting to get a little better at field judging mule deer. Thanks Guys!
-
Right at 150 and change.
I've got a few more pics of the side view and stuff that will better show what a 150 buck looks like. It's a little big buck. LOL.

Here you go.

Jackalope
I was talking Whitetail. I've seen a ton of crosses west of Spokane and my buddy shot a pig of a cross in Swakane. The thing about crosses, whether its (Muledeer x Blacktail) or(Muledeer x Whitetail) is a lot like humans. You take a little of your looks from your dad and a little from your mom, with varying degrees. IMHO

From everything that I have read it is very rare for a mule deer and a whitetail to cross. It is so rare that mule deer and blacktail cross more than mule deer and whitetail. And the best way to know if it's a cross is by the tarsal gland. Not by looking at the tail.
-
180" 28 3/4 wide 6" base
-
Bigshooter,
You are correct, way more rare for the Whitetail cross vs Blacktail but trust me they do and I have seen a bunch of them.
RileyB,
Nice buck

I mentioned this buck in another thread,I knew the guy who killed him in 1977 well before B & C had a non typical section for mule deer,We saw the deer head this weekend at the elk christmas in Vegas,I recognized the antlers and looked down to find out I was correct.Tod passed away last year, his son owns the head now. It's on the eastmans head tour.

A couple 150+ class bucks to give you a perspective on the hoof.

Right around that 150" range.

You must have meant right around 165"+ range.......

It's amazing how not all 150 bucks are not created equal...petty impressive bucks guys

Right around that 150" range.

Over 150.
Barely :chuckle:

It is interesting to see the different ways you can get to 150. Wide, long tines, spindly, tall, thick, crab claws. Great examples of the different combinations.

YOU CUT THE CAPE!!!!!!!!
About half way out I contemplated cutting the rest off... :chuckle: I've never had a deer mounted as I like being able to pull the antlers off the wall and check them out from time to time.
This one should break the 150 mark. Outside spread was a touch over 26" if I remember correctly.
-
Little over 150"

:chuckle:

Nice of you guys to post your monsters  but those are too obvious. I think he is looking for bucks that might be difficult to decide on, not the no brainers you are throwing up here. :dunno:
-
Lol, ya I was looking for the smaller ones that are on that edge but I would still shoot any buck posted thus far...
I know I wouldn't pass the one muleyslayer slayer just posted, what would you say he scored, 190?
-
His back fork trounces his score. That being said, put away the calculator and get out your skinning blade

Bone, I kept the Velvet. Managed to get it home without messing it up at all.

Over 150.
YOU CUT THE CAPE!!!!!!!!
I'd be buying a new cape!
-
Here are two that are around 150. Most people get it backwards. The one on the left is 159 4/8 the one on the right is 147 4/8.
-
Good example right there.

This buck grosses around 160" as a slick 3x4. A different example of a 150" plus.
-
Good example right there.
Thanks standing in a field together I think most would shoot the one on the right thinking it was bigger, the width is deceiving and doesn't gain anything for the score. The one on the left is taller with more mass and 6" worth of eye guards. Both deer only had 3" of deductions, pretty symetrical.
Anything above 140 is tough for me to judge in the field. I am not big on score but it is a reference point.
Here is my deer from this year and it goes around 130. Tank of a body that I wasn't about to pass on.
-

That's because most people get way too excited about spread.
Nice bucks and great examples.

Thanks, this year's deer is pretty wide and heavy, the crab claw forks all around kill the score and it is only 3x4, not that a 4" tine would have helped the score a ton. Deeper forks and it would have scored really well, it started great the eye guards are 3". General archery at 44 yards that is a deer you just can't pass up, especially this year, it was real slim pickings.

Outstanding buck too , I couldn't care less about score, my focus is on mass when I'm out. I'll drop a 2x2 if it's got 6" bases and chocolate antlers. ;)

Best way to find a 150 buck in WA is to follow the guy who says he saw a solid 180 class buck.
-
I was going to say the same thing. Most "180" bucks in Washington are 150 and most "200" bucks are 180.
Bottom line, most 150 bucks are mature deer and most hunters should or would be happy to harvest one unless carrying a special permit in their pocket, or are some kind of special.

Something that only happened to me once in 15 seasons checking hunters: 2 old guys in the foothills of the south Bighorns in Wyoming. They complained there weren't any yearling bucks, all they could find was "big old bucks that aren't worth eating". Thought it was a joke at first, but they were totally serious.

:yeah: Spot on with both statements, and for me I am super happy with anything that I kill with my bow. Every year I go after what is legal, sometimes its a doe, sometimes its a 120" buck and some times when I get there I find a 160" deer right next to him and shoot that instead. Sometimes it works out and sometimes it goes to heck and I have to go find another one to go after.
-
Here are a couple that are close
-
Actionshooter, I like the looks of that second buck! Made me think of this one when I saw the pic.
-
Miles, that tank makes your rifle look like a cricket!
-
This Buck scored 184 5/8
-
same buck
-
another view
-
Don't remember exactly, but I think this 3 was right under 150 gross.
-
same buck
Could use a bit more mass :chuckle: What a cool deer!
-
14' 13' 12' washington general all over 160" (on the bed)
-
Dang!
-
Brutes! :o
-
158. Did not have much mass.
-
I know its very difficult to judge a photo, but man, that buck looks bigger than 158. You talking net?
-
I had him measured many years ago at the Puyallup Fair outdoor show and was given the form that said 158. He is about 28 inches wide and does not have a great mass. After that, I just kinda forgot about how big he is.
He was taken in 1969 in the Methow around Perrigin Lake. He holds a bunch of memories for me. Thanks for your interest. Muskrat
-

Definitely bigger than 158 by the pic in my opinion, great buck muskrat

:yeah: If it was scored at a show it would be net score. I bet gross is closer to 180+
-
With him being 28 wide, I just cant see that buck being 158. Great buck! Maybe they left off your inside spread :chuckle:
-
This is an awesome thread, along with lots of good reference points for sizing up bucks
-
182" Custer National Forrest buck.
-
If that buck is 28" wide, no way he grosses under 190. :twocents:
-
Muskrat I agree with Link, pictures are hard to score, but I would say  you need to have that buck re scored.
It is well over a 158 inch buck !!! extremely nice buck
-
150+
-
Never have had this buck scored but I've always assumed that it was in that ball park of around 140-150. About 24 wide with decent mass. But I'm not sure on what he scores!
-
Right at 180. A 170 buck without his eye guards.

I have not taped it yet but guessing over 150.
-
never put a tape on him but I'm guessing he would make the cut.
-
Never measured but should go pretty close.
-
Better picture but not as big a deer.
-
Some really nice deer are getting posted in here. I would like to see what the tape says about some of the unknown entries.
-
That's a "real dandy", my guess is 170 range, but that is just a guess. lots of mass and great character on that one.
-
Never been into the scoring deal but I,m guessing 150 :dunno:. In all my years of our family hunting history(approx 650 bucks going back to about 1918) in this state no one in our family has ever had a buck scored. It was either "ya I got a buck, ya I got a big fella or I got a real dandy" :chuckle: :chuckle:. Anybody want to take a shot at a score on this guy, I,m kind of curious....Thanks fellas.
One heck of a buck right there!
Funny thing is I can't judge deer racks for nothing, but can get close in the ball park on elk which I don't hunt to often. :dunno:

Would love that one.
Whats sad bone, is my dad tells stories of alot bigger bucks that my great grandparents killed in the 20,s and 30,s and they would give all there horns away to neighborhood kids, some were given to friends who cut them up to make things out of,knife handles, utensil handles, gear shift knobs, hat and coat racks, etc etc :yike:. none of there racks are around today, only a few faded pictures, very sad.

I talked to an old timer that moved into a house with a big fence made of elk horns....he burned it...
My grampa was a butcher an said his trash used to be full of horns...
Interesting how things have changed, definitely alot of history lost ??? But I guess it wasn't history back then

It's amazing how big an actual 150" buck is. This one nets just over 160

Here are a couple of bucks from this year. Haven't had a pro score them but a quick tape in camp has my buddies deer on the right going around 156 and mine on the left maybe making 130. The deep forks and the mass on his really make a difference. The crab claws and missing fork on the right side kill mine.
We couldn't pass either one up with a bow and they are each cool in their own way.
Score is just a measuring stick, both of these score well in the cool category for me, his scores better by the tape also. :chuckle: The hunt itself, the pack out and the memories of these two are what really scores high for me.
