What brand and model does everyone use and like, what do you not like?
I am looking for quality but also quiet. I've helped several guys the last few years that wear them, but every pair they have used have been noisy as hell, either rubbing against each other or making noise through the sage/bitterbrush.
-
Take a look at the gaiters at Kenetrek. They're the best we've found so far.

+1 for the Kenetrek, started using them this year and the have been awesome.
-
+2 Kenetrek. When I got mine, Sportsman's carried them. So you can check fit with your boots before committing.
-
I really like the OR gaiters for fit and function, but they can be very noisy. Best ones for hunting IMO have been the older Kennetrek and the Blacks Creek (now Remedy7). I actually think the original K'trek ones were made by Blacks Creek :dunno: Remedy7's are about $9.00 cheaper from most pro shops.
Have not used the newer style K'trek so I have no knowledge about them. Look nice in the pictures ;)
-
The newer kennetrek are built like the OR, but with the typical fleece-like outer layer that keeps them quieter.
-
I like Kuiu's but they are noisy.
-
I fifth the kennetrek. had mine for about 5 years and they look new. mike w

I'm hoping to get a pair of Kenetreks from Santa this year. I've done a lot of net research on them and they seem to be the quietest. Whacker1 has a pair and really likes them.
-
Just FYI, I saw that the new Bass Pro store carries Kenetrek boots, so you might be able to check out the gaiters in person there as well.
-
Kenetreks all the way
-
Outdoor Research Crocodiles. You'll love them! I don't know what you're talking about them being noisy... :chuckle:

I wasn't talking about yours, Clints on the other hand.......

Cabela's has kenetrek boots and a mail in offer for a free pair of gaiters

I ran the kenetrek's for about 3 years with good luck, finally wore them out. Bought kuiu's for a recent Ak trip, worked ok but the lace hook is ass backwards. Later had the stitching and a button snap fail. Emailed kuiu some pics and they are sending me some new ones. Kuiu stuff is nice but imo they are new enough that they are still working alot of bugs out of there gear. After starting to run gators I can't believe I ever hunted/hiked without them before, from snow to wet brush to creek crossings etc. they are a must have peace of gear!
-
I picked up a Cabelas brand that seemed quiet. I wanted to try these because if they fall apart you can get another pair.
-
I have a pair of OR Crocs and I love them but they're noisey.
I also have a pair of the Cabelas gaiters that I really like for noise but they don't cover enough of my boots.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE KENNETREK.... I have destroyed two pair in one winter.... they just don't hold up.
I like the OR gaiters quite a bit. They are tough. They are also pretty loud, don't expect to sneak up on anything.
I just got a pair of Sitka gaiters that look really great. I'm looking forward to testing them this winter.
-
I really like my Sitka gear. But, the gaiters lasted me about four days in the alpine. Older Kennetrek lasted much longer! OR last the longest, but it better be really rainy to sneak too close to the average critter.
-
I wear OR gaiters and have had the same pair for about 5 years. They work really well and the fit amazing. Good Luck.
-
I like the kennetrek, but wore 1 pair out in 2 years. I don't know how long they should last. I will buy them again, because everyone else complains about how noisy the others are.

I don't think the OR's are noisy at all. :twocents:

Be the guy walking behind the person wearing OR gaiters. Might change your mind!
My farts don't normally bother me at all :chuckle:

Mine are. I wouldn't wear any other in a snow hiking scenario, the quality is top notch......but they are noisey as heck. Maybe a different model or something.
-
I have the ors and kuius, both work great but the Kuiu ones are a lot quieter. Get alittle dirt on them and there even better

This is the model I wear. My legs don't rub together so that doesn't make noise. I mostly wear them in rainy wet conditions and have never had a problem stalking animals. I archery hunt so I have to be relatively quiet. The velcro is very noisy if you try to put on or take off in the field....though I put them on and take off in camp....never in the fields.

I took my old wool pants that had the crotch worn out and had my sister in law cut the middle of each leg and make a pair for me.
-
I got a pair of Core4Element Cascades they seam like a real quality pair , real quite just wearing them around the house.
-
Well I got a pair of Kenetrecks for Christmas. Have had one outing in them. QUIET!!!!!!. First time my feet have been dry in the snow for several years

I got the same ones right before turkey-day. Worked great, kept my feet warm and dry. I plan on using them on horse back as well since my chaps leave my boots and pant legs exposed.
-
I've had my kentreks for 3 years and mine have held together pretty good. I might be able to get one more year out of them. I used the ORs before and they won't come apart but they are noisy!
-
I had been using OR gaiters for the past 3 or 4 years and they work great, but I wanted something a lot quieter. I had some made out of wool from day one camo out of Colorado. Well made and quiet. They have a number of materials and patterns to choose from. https://www.dayonecamouflage.com/store/products/Gaiter.html (https://www.dayonecamouflage.com/store/products/Gaiter.html)
-
Cabelas new backcountry line came out with gaitors...they look nice
-
If you have an extra $226 you can buy a pair of the king of the mountain gaiters, wool. quietest gaiters you can buy.
-
I have been watching this post a little, something I have my eye on:
http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-H20-Gaiters/product/1203020501072/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT (http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-H20-Gaiters/product/1203020501072/?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT)
I see pretty good reviews for the price.
-
I have an older pair of OR's. Zip up the side with a clip at the tongue that clips right into the tongue 'D'ring of my Merril's. They aren't the new cordura of the latest OR's. Maybe a little quieter, but I don't know that that matters much in snow anyway.
