Was having a conversation on camo face paint and was wondering who wears it and how often. I,normally only put it on opening day of early season elk. Lets see you,make-up job.
-
Usually just wear a mask but sometime i paint up.
-
I wear it too.
Oh, you meant during hunting.
Nevermind.
-
I wore it for the first time last weekend, not sure if it helped but i felt like a bada**
-
Kinda like a ninja?
-
I feel it's my most valuable price of camo...face paint in September
I usually don't take selfies but just know my paint job is way better than yours :chuckle:
-
I used it during duck hunting and sometimes for early archery. I don't like masks or anything that can impede view or hearing so face paint is the next best thing.
-
I usually just burn a wine cork and use the "charcoal" as paint. It works pretty good and is easier to wipe off than paint. Only really use it for ducks and turkey though.

Nah I dont like makeup did way to much wearing it in my youth besides those colors dont match my complexion :)
-
Don't wear the stuff
-
Will use it during early archery and duck hunting with my boys. Only picture I have showing our faces.
-
cant stand to have it on my face, just bugs my skin. most people that i see with it use it so sparingly their faces still glow. I use a really light and loose mask if the situation calls for it.
-
None for me. Got fed up with scrubbing it off, sweat dripping and burning my eye sockets, or into my mouth and tasting it. Now I just wear a neck gaiter and pull it up when stalking. Much easier.
Still keep some around because the kids like to get into "ninja" mode before heading out. :chuckle:
-
I hyperventilate with the scarves over my mouth/face.. can't do it. So yea I camo up usually, gotta blend in my pale face somehow lol..
Hunting alone, not seeing anything and playing the waiting game? Take a selfie :chuckle:

I wear a balaclava... This is so I don't have to worry about sweating the stuff off, or walking into a store looking like a dork, when you forget to swipe it off.
-
I like the look SG, but there still seems to be too much white space. forehead, chin & neck. and don't forget the tip of the nose. the oils in the skin create a shine reflected by lite so it has always seemed to me that its either complete cover or don't waste your time. and Those eye's of yours are gonna attract attention no matter how hard you try to hide.

My beanie was pulled down most of the day but then it was itchy so I pushed it back for a little bit. I will take note for the rest :) I figured shiniest parts get covered to dull them up but I'll cover more next time, thanks!
-
No pics, but I do wear a little on my face to cover the white and on the back of my hands.
In the early season, I will wear it in a ground blind.
-
Used to wear camo face paint, hated it, but knew it was effective. I then discovered light weight headnets and haven't gone back. They also help keep the bugs out of my ears and off my face during the early season and I have not noticed any reduction in hearing ability. The only real hassle is trying to blow a call, for ducks/geese you get used to blowing through the net, for open reed style calls I just cut a small opening in front of my mouth.
-
Sitting in the ground blind for elk.
-
If bugling for elk, still hunting dark timber or after blacktail bucks I wear face paint a good bit. I've tried many different face masks and covers. Never liked a one of them. Seem to effect my anchor point, fog up my glasses, and many cover my ears and effect my hearing. And getting mosquitos trapped between a mask and my face and ears drives me mad!!! I'd rather go without than have a cover, though I am a firm believer in face camo giving better opportunities when on the ground. Also, you would never catch me hunting ducks and geese without face paint.
Lately I spend more time sleeping in the truck than busting the brush. So I don't cover the face as much as I did. Especially since late season is stupid cows only. But the wife is almost always hitting the bush with Larry D. Jones face paint on. Even if just black to cover the bright white areas it's a great benefit IMO.
I've lost a few digital photos over the years. So not a large amount of photos to post. But here are a few recent ones.
-
Considering how close I get with a big white reflective lens, I think you guys are just wanting an excuse to wear makeup. :chuckle: Other than that I just grow my face make up
-

:yeah:

no make-up necessary, just shoot em

Kinda like this guy :chuckle:
-
Thats pretty sweet right there.

I usually have some growth and that does help break up the huge amount of bright white. The face paint is for us mere mortals who make mistakes yet still hope to find success despite those "Ooops" moments. ;)
Around here we call people like Bone a "Ferret of the furrier"...means your a sneaky little Falker:
-
Heres how my hunting Posse rolls :chuckle:
-
idk if this has been said but if you put baby lotion on your mugs before face paint it washes off real easy with baby wipes, we use to have to camo our faces all the time in the service, and i mean all the time, you re camoed all the damn time :bash: i use to also wear it when i bear hunted
-
Have your woman go buy you makeup wipes, even the toughest stuck on paint doesn't hold up to some Neutrogena makeup wipes :chuckle: trust me. They are in a blue package, they have travel size little packages so you can keep in your rig to wash off your face after your hunt is over.
Those of you saying grow your camo, yea, another reason why I have to use the paint.

As much as I hate to admit it and will probably get flamed for it but I use those to remove my face paint. The kind I use will not run in the rain, from sweat, wiping with my arm etc. I was getting sick of rubbing my face raw with soap and a wash cloth and my mom told me to try her makeup remover. A few wipes with the little cloth things and my face was clean. Sold!

Smossy steals mine (he won't buy them) but I tell any guy I know to suck up your pride and get these. They are AMAZING, especially if you have water-resistent paint like you've experienced. This stuff is created to remove the most tough, stuck on water-proof mascaras :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: so it'll take that paint off like nothing. It feels softer than baby wipes too.
The one I use looks like this and you can buy it anywhere, it's located by the face washes, there are a lot of different ones but I just prefer this

I have always used baby oil to remove makeup, mascara even grease paints used in stage makeup its cheap babyoil and cotton balls, even removes the most stubborn waterproof mascara. For those who dont want to shop in the womens makeup section :)
-
I can't stand greasy baby oil on my face, I shuddered just thinking about it lol but yea that works too. I just don't want to remove something off my face by putting something else on it is why I love em :) :dunno:

That's what I use. I keep them in a ziplock on top of the package they come in. One package has last me a few years
-
babywipes are possibly safer the formaldehyde in the makeup removers and other chemicals if not rinsed off are considered carcinogens, dermatologists recommend essentially washing your face after using them. The baby oil comes right off in the shower. I usually removed makeup and hopped in shower so was never an issue.
but I shall bow out seeing as I dont use makeup myself and I am not a bowhunter just trying to save a guy a few bucks lots of peeps have mineral oil or babyoil around.
-
Removing camo is easy without all the wipes and fufu stuff. Just add shampoo to a wash cloth. I use Dead Down Wind Hair and Body soap most of the time, but have used many different shampoos over the years and all seem to work the same. Dawn dish soap and Dial bar soap work good too, but dries out skin. Rub it on in the concentrated form. Scrub a little and then fully rinse. Haven't found a camo product yet that won't easily wash off this way.
-
I don't for turkey but I do for bowhunting and waterfowl.
-
OK, just so I got my shopping list straight:
I need:
Makeup to put on
Baby oil to get said makeup off
Makeup wipes to get the baby oil off
Maxi-pads for the first aid kit for when I cut myself opening the wipes
Super-hydrating Lotion for the dry skin caused by the makeup and soaps
Panti-hose for ultralight long johns because it's gonna be cold out
Bright nail polish for the front sight in case I actually get a shot
Can you imagine the looks I'd get if I stopped at Fred Meyer in Issaquah on the way home from work to get this stuff before a hunting trip? Sheesh. "Oh, hang on sir, before you ring that up, I was supposed to get some cucumbers and pepperoni sticks for camp, too. I'll be right back." I'd be on youtube in a matter of seconds from somebody's phone.
-

If you stopped at Issaquah...no body would notice! Only thing folks in Issaquah would find odd is that you hadn't bought your anal lubrication too.
-
@PA BEN.... awesome camo job man.
Yeah, I always wear that stuff. Helps a lot. :twocents:
Deer can totally tell you're human, but with cover scent, and face paint, you can stand there perfectly still, and deer are all like.... what the? gives you more time.
this picture was at end of hunt.... all sweaty is why I'm shiny. I can assure you, that while walking the woods, I was invisible! lol
-
I shouldn't say never, but rarely do I wear it. I've never had an elk spot because of a bare face or hands. The last elk I stuck was while wearing a short sleeve camo shirt and no face paint or mask. Kind of reassured me that if you don't move, they don't see you.
-
This is s pretty good thread.
-
It is ! If it wasn't for my face, I'd try again with all the removal info that has been given.
-
Aint necessary shot this buck at 15 feet. Not the first time as about as close. elk and deer both - spot em - stalk em - shoot em.
-
I take a lighter to wine corks. Then use the charred cork to darken up my face. It's cheap, light and easy to have on hand, and I can't imagine it hurts my chances so I use it. Clean up is super easy.

Used that for years! Was great as long as you made sure there weren't any lingering coals and hot spots. :chuckle:
-
I assume D-Rock gets the same two questions I do, "Why do you say elk are easy to kill with a bow?" and, "What is your secret to successful elk hunting?" These two questions are usually asked by the same person who just got done telling me face camo makes no difference. Coincidence :dunno:
Is that what you find too, D-Rock?
-
Not a fan. I will wear a face mask on occasion.

Years ago I was in a store looking for elk mouth calls, they didn't have any. A blond came up and asked if I needed anything? I said thanks you don't have what I need. She said what is it, maybe she could order it. I said it's a elk mouth call, she had no clue and asked what type of call and I said it's a diaphragm. She turned red and looked shocked, my buddy said not that kind of diaphragm, this one you put in your mouth. She got real flustered and thought we were messing with her. :chuckle:

Don't forget the condoms ( no lube) for emergency scope covers.
-
Sometimes in warmer weather but usually when I am bowhunting it is around or below freezing so I wear a camo 3 holed ski mask.
-
Aint necessary shot this buck at 15 feet. Not the first time as about as close. elk and deer both - spot em - stalk em - shoot em.
And the "experts" say that the worst color you can wear for hunting is anything blue. :chuckle:

I was told this once and think it is 100% true. 10% of elk hunters kill 90% of the elk. Ive been lucky enough to get myself into that 10%.
-
I've sure done a lot better with face camo and gloves. If it just gives me 1/2 to 2 seconds, it could make the difference when I'm sneaking around.

Really good point there  If I had to chose one or the other I'd take the gloves! A lot more movement of your hands when trying to get a shot off compared to the face.

:yeah: I always carry extra gloves to change with the weather and sometimes a face mask to cover the grey beard.
-
I believe face paint is the key to hunting. The more face paint the better. Elk like to look good in pictures
-
Aint necessary shot this buck at 15 feet. Not the first time as about as close. elk and deer both - spot em - stalk em - shoot em.
Nice buck and story. It can sure help sometimes and spot and stalk isn't always the name of the game.
Anything that is as affordable as a facepaint compact, which will increase your odds by a little bit shouldn't be discounted. I've had a buck at 10' while wearing jeans and a red flannel but I've also had them spot me 100 yards away while I had the wind and cover to my advantage and I was in full camouflage. Nothing is for certain it's all about increasing the odds.
-
I always wear it, I can't get my anchor point correct with a mask on. I was wearing thin camouflage gloves also when I took the shot. For some reason the gloves don't throw off my anchor.
-
I did it once after I read a thread like this on HW :chuckle:
-
You army boys...Do they still issue the field manual 21-75?
-

gloves usually wont change your anchor point but will change your grip on your bow enough to notice a change.
-
I wear a mask, paint gets meey when i sweat.
-
I like the wine cork idea. Does anyone on here who uses have a pic? I am curious as to what the coloring is.
-

I think "Charcoal" would be an appropriate description of the color :chuckle:
-
I'm pretty religious about it during early season, especially if going into a setup or stalk and have some time to "prep" :chuckle:
Late season I use it less. Not sure why, maybe because its not as bright outside. I usually take it off for pics, and remove it with the same wipes SG suggested.
-
Hardly ever wear it... But I have heard the better you look the better you hunt so maybe I should give it a try. ;). Honestly I hate having to wash it off in the backcountry at night.

always have... if 90% of you is camo, why would you want your face to stick out ?

Not so sure about that we got a few on here that out hunt the guys.
If I were 25 again. :yike:

Saw this the other day. Can't find details anywhere on how to remove it or even details on application. But I might need to do a little investigation on this. Sounds interesting.

My daughter and I do! It's fun to watch her do hers! :chuckle: :chuckle:

Nice!!
I used to paint up with my sons when they were young. It was a great part of the ritual.
-
No I did not see a removal protocal. If it is a temporary tattoo then normal soap and water will work.
