Title: A friends first AR build.
Post by: Biggerhammer on December 13, 2014, 02:13:22 PM
Several weeks ago a friend from Idaho got ahold of me and was thinking about getting a Adam Arms AR. I suggested he build his own. He decided to go in that direction with some advice from my end and allot of research on his end we compiled the parts.  He came down this last week and today we had some free time to head down to the shop and I showed him how it all goes together and walked him through it. The carbine turned out great. The Cerakote is a mix I call "Terminal Grey". Alan Kirkpatrick at Big Horn Custom Finishes in East Wenatchee as always delivered a pristine Cerakote job.

This was AR week , my brother finished up his 16" Grendel. All with acception of the trigger guard, that will go on tomorrow.

Both are 16" Grendels, both in "Terminal grey". Mine is on the bottom (16" BHW barrel ), his is the top carbine (16" AA barrel), Killer Innovations muzzle brake.

Nice, what is the approximate cost of a cerakote job like that?  And, is the stock and handgrip done as well?

The stocks and the grips are standard MagPul black. To Cerakote a AR upper, lower, handguard and buffer tube is 200.00.

Buffer tube was what I meant instead of stock.  Thx.

I gotta say, though an unecessary little treat... the custom or any cerakote for that matter, sure does add a touch... mmm hmm!

When I get my bow building shop set back up... I think I will start experimenting with Cerakote... I have been spraying high qual finishes for about 10 years on bows... I am thinking I should be able to handle Cerakote too...

I bet some bow limbs would look bad ass in some of the cerakote colors... when I dont use clear glass over purty wood!

What chambering do you have in mind?

5.56. Nothing fancy. A full size, military spec, smooth forearm, piston rod. Something like this one....

A H-Bar 5.56 build should be simple enough.
