I've hunted small game for about four years now Ive also had my share of deer and elk but ive become highly interested in Eastern Turkey.
Know of any good GMU's near Thurston or Mason County?
Let me know.
-
Don't know much about those counties, but just north of Spokane is loaded with turkeys. I have had to kick them out of my way before.
-
:yeah:.

Have you tried looking up the statistics for success for the GMUs for turkey? That would probably be a good place to start to see what GMUs are best for eastern turkey. You might have better luck for turkey in the North east part of this state than you will have on the westside. Lots of Turkeys around Colville and Chewelah.
-
If you want a eastern turkey stay on west side, Lewis, Cowlitz county. If you want Mariam's go to north east lot more birds. A eastern on the west is a true trophy.
-
Yup easterns on the west side are TUFF. You can also try Klickitat county for Merriam's. it would be a little closer than the NE corner.

Also down around Kalama for easterns. There are pockets out of Oakville but easterns are wary as hell and in our thick brush, you will work very hard to even see one. I once called one into about 6 yards. He came in totally silent and exploded when I got up to move. About shat myself...
-
Easterns are tough in Wa due to the thick cover we have. But, I know a place that used to hold good numbers of birds. I have never taken one there though :bash:
If I get over there this year, your welcome to join in.
I also have a new spot that I was told I can hunt this spring. I havent scouted anything yet due to it being too early yet. But am told there are good numbers on this ranch.
-
I've seen the Easterns around Tenino, Centralia, Oakville, and Pe Ell. Not often but they are there. Not sure I'd want to spend time trying to hunt them.
-
I here Capitol peak has birds.
Yep. I've seen two up there. One two years ago in the summer and one about 6 years ago in September.
-
Here is my eastern I got in 1998....I would concentrate capital forest from porter to oakville. Also try areas down by Lincoln Creek. I got some other spots...but don't want to advertise them. They are out there...I grew up in the Capitol Forest..know it well...My grand parents own ground in Littlerock and have easterns on thier property. Good Luck.
-
Easten's are out there but not in big numbers. You will find them in small flocks in certain area's. When you get good at killing them it will make the east side turkeys seem like a cake walk. The trick is when you find them dont tell anyone they wont take pressure very well. They dont talk as much as the birds on the east side. I have taking several and called in birds for friends. I am lucky to have birds close to home that i have been hunting sence 1994 and am a active member of NWTF i have been apart of helping release the birds we bought from Missouri and Iowa back in the early 90's.

Hi Eric nice to here from you. Dad is doing great he is retiring in 10 day's. We need to get togethere and do some hunting some time. I can show you some eastern spots.
-
I can't believe it...retiring. Yep you still got those easterns pinned down. I haven't gone after em since 1998. My parents live over there..I guess I have been having too much fun over here. My son will be 7 this year gonna try and get him out next year..he goes with me a few times a year to practice...etc. He got to see some last year he is still talking about it. We hunt Lincoln County a lot. Occasionall we will run up north for a bird or two. Lot of snow this year....talk at you later send me a PM with your contact info...I'll reply with mine..Take Care. Happy New Year.
