Ok so Im in the Process of Getting serious with my Waterfowl Hunting and im gonna get a new shotgun im thinking i want a semi auto but im not 100% positive on the action type. I seen a Benelli at the Local Cabelas and i absolutely fell in love with it 28" barrel and dark wood stock semi auto.. So help me figure out what kinda gun to buy fellow hunters.

Super black eagle 2 is the way to go :twocents:
-
I have a supernova and m2, both are great shotguns. I dont think you can go wrong with a Benelli, but I'd highly recommend a camo version. Waterfowling is a wet sport and it's easier to keep rust off a camo gun. I don't have a SBE II but have shot them and they are good guns too. Same with the Vinci, great gun.
-
Take a look at the Stoger M3500 it has the same guts as the black eagle but it is only $600-700. :twocents:

:yeah:
I have an 8 year old battered SBE II and Nova and have shot others - my next gun is probably another SBE II .
-
winchester sx3 is a sweet gun at a good price point as well! it really just depends on what fits you, but there is no going wrong with a benelli
-
Waterfowl gun......don't go pretty............It won't stay that way.
-
I have an m2 and it points very well for me. The inertia action is easy to clean and reliable.
-
I'm a fan of the Versa Max. Shoots every time, light recoil.

Stoger M3500 or a Winchester SX3, I will not shoot another Benelli, I've dumped 6 or 7 of them I'd rather be kicked by a mule. I shoot a Beretta 391 or a Baikal MP-153 both are much easyer on the dental work. :twocents:

doesnt the stoeger have the same inertia system as the benelli?

I have a Benelli Super Vinci, and I would trade it in a second if it didn't have sentimental value to me. Kicks me in the cheek like all the recoil is landing on my cheek bone. Tried all the shims....same thing. Patterns like crap and shoots high. I can drop ducks one after another with my other gun, yet every time I take out the Benelli I can go through a box of shells for a limit. My advice is to try one first. Make sure it fits you and patterns where you want it to. I would not recommend them.

I don't understand how shotguns pattern differently. They are relatively simple right? I mean its not like a rifle, is it just design error that has the shell sit differently?

There is a camo Benelli M1 Super 90 in the classifieds that was made for hunting waterfowl.
SR1

It's not simple at all actually. Some barrel tapers throw better patterns then others. A few .001's one way or the other makes a difference. Oddly enough The guns the pattern the best are the mossberg 835/935.

IMO... no wood for waterfowl! the wood and blue will be toast after a season. go camo.
I really liked the super vinci when I was looking at it. would it be the same problems with everyone?

I'm in the market for a new gun as well. Have a nova that I've shot the last ten years and time to move on. I've been looking towards the browning maxus. Point and shoot style gun. My nova shoots low. My brother is looking into it for me and I'll let you know what he comes up with. Either browning or I'll go with sbe 2. Everyone hangs onto then for a reason
-
The inertia guns kick more than the gas operated semi autos. The only time I really notice is when shooting 3.5s. I switched to a sbe 2 this year and love it.

:yeah: Another Versa Max fan here.
-
nothing wrong with wood and blued steel, mine are fine after years of hunting salt water mostly, i just take care of them.
benellis are nice guns, but the price point is pretty outrageous on the SBE II. i'd take a good look at the versamax sportsman, or winchester SX3. just not a big fan of inertia guns for heavy waterfowl loads.
-
I'm a SBE and M1 super 90 Benelli fan. I prefer a semi to a pump loader because for the life of me I'd lift my head when I was racking a new round in a pump and missed a lot more than I do with the semi. I hear good reports about Franchi Affinity.
-
Ive got a nova pump i got two years ago. That thing kicks like a mule. Just bought a stoeger M3000 for this season and couldn't be happier. Hardly any kick, and its really evident from my go pro footage. The camera hardly twitches when I shoot.
-
Another SBE fan here. I've had mine about 15 years and have probably cycled 7500 waterfowl loads through it. Great gun which fits me better than most other shotguns I've tried.
-
I"ve got 7yrs into my SBEII now. It's reliable, lighter than the gas guns which makes it faster on the swing but still follows thru well. Recoil is not even noticeable even w/3.5"ers.
Out of the dozen or so shotguns I've shot for hunting over the years the SBEII is by far my favorite.
-
I am also a fan of the SBEII. I have 3 of them in different set ups! Good functioning guns!
-
I have an SBE I and SBE II both in 28'. I like them both really well. I appreciate how easy it is to tear the SBEs down as I do most of my hunting in the salt. That being said if my SX II hadn't of grown legs and disappeared I would still be shooting it. The SX II was noticeably heavier but it soaked up a lot more of recoil when shooting heavy loads.
-
Leave benelli and look at the new browning A5. Absolutely fantastic waterfowl shotgun. It points like a dream, still kicks like a 12ga, and muzzle jump is seems almost non existent. Cost is very similar to the benelli. The dura touch stock is great, it gives a much better grip especially when the gun is wet. I'm not saying benelli is a bad gun by any means. Just give a looks see. I sell guns as a part time job and I sell A5s' over benellis' 2:1. :twocents:

Love my SBE!!!

Ohh shoot, no one told me wood and blued barrels won't work. Guess my Ruger Red Label will have to be retired since it will rust and warp. Sure glad it hasn't so far in the last 19 years.
Is it me or have people gotten so used to stainless and other materials that they no longer know how to or care to take proper care of a firearm? I have guns from my grandfather that have been used for many decades that still work and look fine except for wear in the expected places.

HAha yea seriously. How on earth did all those Winchester model 12's survive? They must be made of purgo haha. I own a couple of plastic guns but now I've grown out of it. Clean your gun after every trip and dont use it as a boat paddle and it will be fine. Yes it will get dings and maybe a scrape but thats what you call character. I will have no pride in handing down my plastic guns but the wood ones will have stories to tell.
-
If you can, try them all before you buy. Browning, Benelli, Beretta Xtrema 2, etc. They are all nice, but each is a little different.

Was thinking of just getting a nova and not super nova.
