I'm in the Army and just moved to the area. I was wondering if anyone had some input as to where to hunt next fall for Blacktail, around the Lacey area. I'm not looking for anyone's secret areas just an area where I can get out and see some deer. Thanks

I would check into hunting on Fort Lewis. Otherwise you can go where everybody else goes like Capitol Forest or Vail.

I'd take Bobcat's advice and check out Fort Lewis first. I have seen some really impressive bucks come off there in the past. Otherwise, I would find an area with some gates and start walking in to get to know the area. Check out the Thurston County Geodata website and use the aerial photo overlays to search for promising spots or to see what an area looks like before walking in - http://www.geodata.org/.

Fort Lewis...............................................
I shot a nice little 2 point last year on th elast day of the season, and i have a friend that gets big bucks from there eall the time. his son has 2 deer in the books for youth hunts, and he has some dandys..........
This year was not a good year though, a mushroom picker got shot and closed down half of the areas for a while. Not many bucks taken in total, i believe some where in the 20's (don't quote me thou).
Vail is a hell hole, lot of hunters and small deer. it's a pumpkin patch where ever you are.
