Arizona has posted 2015 elk and pronghorn regulations. This is a year round cycle to whose madness there is no end
Draw date deadline will be February 10th.

I love application season.

Bean: Do you know if there is anyway to tell how many nonresidents get drawn in the 20% point pass for each unit. Why I ask is because from what I read the great elk and deer tags fill the 10% non resident cap in the 20% pass. Leaving nothing to go into the random draw.
-
As stingy as Arizona is with the good non-resident tags I just cant justify it. I bailed out when I did the math, and I applied for 48 hunts in 8 states last season so when even I cant justify it its pretty bad. :chuckle:

Halo: How did the Nevada deer hunt go?
I also apply a lot out of state. I just want to know if I have a 1 in 1000 chance or zero percent. I hear they are changing Arizona's tag allocation in 2016 for non residents.

Hunt was a lot of fun but the migration was a little late and the rut seemed a little slow so the big ones just were not showing up yet. The locals & guides were pretty much in agreement it was as tough a year as they had seen for that tag. I held out to the end, shot a dink, loaded up and headed home. Was pretty cool though when I knocked over one of two 4 points with eye guards and he gets back on his feet and is immediately rammed broadside by the other buck, rolled down the hill and severely gored. That was different.

Yes, at least for the primo tags. You can look at the bonus pass results by hunt number, and they break it down by the number of points it took to draw. If you see that some first choice applicants did NOT draw in the bonus pass with 13 (for example), but some drew in the bonus pass with 12 or 11, then you know that the NR cap was met with 13, and those that didn't draw with 13 must have been NRs because there were some residents with 12 that drew. That is the case for virtually all the primo elk and deer tags because at this point there are way more NRs with a bunch of elk and deer points.

Right on I'm glad to hear you gave it the time it deserves! I was hoping to see you post a 200" buck. But that's hunting. Thanks

Thanks Bean
Wacoues: I had seen those higher points that didn't draw I just did know if it was the non resident cap being met or a resident that applied as a party with another person with less points so they didn't draw.
Thanks guys

If you want to be reminded to apply in AZ or whatever state you want to be reminded in. Get the PointHunter app. it is $2 and lets you choose how you want to be reminded. No missing an applicaion is a big deal for AZ because of the 5 year loyalty point. miss a year and you do not get the loyalty point.

Yeah, you can eyeball the resident and non-resident totals for the different species and see the problem - more NRs than residents in the higher point brackets. It only happens with deer and elk, and not sheep or antelope. So for the most part, decent chance the NR tags for sheep and antelope slip through to the random draw. For elk and deer, that only happens with tags that aren't popular with NRs.
I cashed in my deer points last year, and I should do so with elk in the next couple years (16 points this year). After that, unless they change the system, I'll only apply for lesser tags that are not popular with NRs.

Good luck you guys. You think someday Wa will put out our regs this quick???? Wouldn't that be nice, our deadline should be February!!

Keep in mind that this is just pronghorn and elk. For deer, sheep, and the rest Arizona's drawing isn't until JUNE :o

Yea, I think Arizona elk hunt is fantastic. I am looking forward to it as well. I have been buying points by putting in for the most coveted hunts as I did not want to go any where because of a kid in college. But he will be done in one year so I will be able to cash those points in for a hunt.
-
I got ahead of the rush and applied this morn. One of these days I'll have to cash those antelope and elk points in. 14 - antelope, 15 - elk.

Beancounter where do you find the break down of the PP draw for each unit
