just getting back into predator hunting so im looking at different calls an sounds. anyone use a flextone coon squaller for coyotes? whats your thoughts and openions?
-
They can be very curious critters so it may work. I have never used coon calls on coyotes, if it peaks there interest then it might work.
-
alright, would you suggest crow/raven sounds? just kinda looking at different options. with squirrel sounds just use rodent in distress?
-
I've used it, but haven't had very good results. It sounds best when run wide open (which is extremely loud for a hand call) so you might consider using it only on the windy days or when your trying to reach out a good distance. It's a little too aggressive for my taste, but I still give it a try every now and then when conditions allow.
Your mileage may vary. Good luck out there.

I have used crow calls from time to time. Kinda to add to a coaxer, never felt like I gained anything.
I don't call 1/10 of what I use to when I was younger. One sound that I have found very deadly was vole squeaks. Any time I got anything to hang up. It is 1 of the 2 sounds I use to get a reaction. Depending on the time of year. If they are breeding or have pups. Pup distress is the other.

thanks fair-chase for your input.
carp, what is vole squeaks?
-
It's a small rodent. The sounds are very raspy squeaks. It's a FoxPro sound.

I've got a flextone coon squaller. It is loud but with practice you can get some great distress sounds from it. Rabbit, fawn, ECT. Fwiw I really prefer an open reed call my self. Way more sound options from a single call.
