Took one of my protege hunters out to the stand tonight at about 1930. When there is snow on the ground the hunters around here are out in force taking advantage of the night hunting. The snow was quickly dissipating but the moon came on strong after 2100. I fell asleep at about 2200 and he woke me up at midnight seeing nothing so we packed up and started the half mile walk back to the car. About 40 feet from the car we noted a fox in the field adjacent to us that spooked late probably because of the rushing creek between us. It ran away about 15 additional feet and turned to look back long enough for me to take off the scope cover, take a knee, charge my blaser then proceed to shoot her in the face at about 40 yards.
