Not that I am worried at all. But what would happen to you if you had a hand held taser and had to zap someone if you were in direct physical contact with that person?
We use to make shockers in Jr High when I was a kid in school. As experiments we would hold hands in a line and a circle and see who got shocked. The electricity would pass through four or five students with out shocking them and zap the guy on the end or the guy in the middle. I forget the details of that.
I think I would get just as much of a jolt as the bad guy.
What would happen?

A stun gun "hand held" is not a very good option in my opinion. All they have to do is pull away from you and out of contact and they can still strike you or whack you with something they might have in there hands. A taser that deploys contact darts are often a lot more voltage and deliver a solid shock for a programed amount of time. Then you can pull the trigger again and shock them again. Some you can use as stun gun even if they have been fired and contact is not made with the darts/prongs.
I have been stunned gun several times just to see the effects. Most are enough to just tick a big guy like me off. Others will level a guy :chuckle: I still don't like anything that has to be in direct touch contact as a viable self defense weapon.

being as that I have been tased, dry stunned and sprwyed with oc spray and use them on the job I still recommend a firearm for protection. Stun guns only cause pain, taser guns can easily fail and oc spray does not work on everyone and you have a high chance of contaminating yourself with it.

This civilian model is worse than the police models. It's smaller and easier to carry than the x-26 (police taser) but still carries the same 50,000 volts. It also stuns for 10 second bursts up to maximum 30 seconds of stunning :yike:
30 seconds of riding the lightening will put most down for a while :chuckle:
like stated, there's lot's of reasons for it to fail too.

Just to be clear I would pick a gun any day for self defense. And I do. But if they got through the 16 rounds of 9mm, and the 6 rounds of my back up pocket gun ,than if I was able I would try the Kimber Blaster. :chuckle:

There is nothing to replace a conceal carry permit with a 44 to backing it up. My permit expired two years ago when I was in the hospital with my back and quite frankly I don't leave my house and yard nowadays. I do walk up to a convenient store not far at all for exercise every day. I am not carrying. I really don't like that at all since I have had a permit for over 30 years now.

In that case, I would suggest not holding hands with your attacker. :) Also, never bring a taser to a gunfight. Personally, I wouldn't be caught dead without a carry anymore, pun intended. I don't know where you live, but it really doesn't matter much - the odds of needing a firearm are still remote and yet, needing one and not having one would be a real "doh!" moment. Maybe a sidearm? Maybe get a hogleg and a Stetson. You'd be the coolest guy in the neighborhood.
If you insist on not carrying and want a taser, I would suggest one with the darts, as you don't need to maintain physical contact with your assailant for it to be effective and you can deploy before the attacker actually reaches you. Remember that tasers aren't very effective on tweekers. They seem to get increased energy out of being tased.

Carpsniperg2 Im sure you will agree with me, it sucks going through it but makes you realise that if determined that you can fight through all three that I listed.
Agree 100%. They are all deterrents to me. A taser is the best bet for a realistic non lethal. You can miss with them and relay on a dry stun but a lot of people can fight threw a dry stun.

Thanks guy's for all of your insight. I do wear a Stetson Pianoman. :) And have an open carry holster for my Super Black Hawk. My belt has shrunk a few inches these last two years. I need a new gun belt.
Is there any way I could renew my conceal carry with out going down to the court house? My back just won't hold up for the trip through down town traffic and walking through the court house. I live in Graham and the Mountain Precinct is a manageable trip. I've never fully understood why any precinct can not process the applications.
You should call the sheriff and let them know you're disabled. You might be able to renew at a local sheriff's office, if that helps.

Next time you see a taser in a video w the prongs that shoot count how long it shocks for. 30 second would be hilarious the one shot would be hurting for days. If I didn't need leathal force I would be hesitant to use it. They have and can kill. They are banned in Tacoma city limits too. Not sure if police can carry them but not the private sector. I'll stick with the xd 45.

The civilian model zaps for 10 seconds and allows up to 2 additional zaps if you pull the trigger again for a total of 30 seconds. (3 ten seconds zaps)
The police model zaps for 5 second zaps and additional 5 second zaps if needed.
Taser international says the police only need 5 seconds because they have then means, tools and training to subdue a person where the civilian doesn't and needs the 30 seconds to insure the ability to escape the assailant.
3 ten second rides will leave just about anyone huffing for air so bad they couldn't do much more than wallow around on the ground trying to get wind and uncurl themselves out of fetal position *if* the darts properly deploy and all goes according to design.

Getting a new permit is easy. Go to your local police station or sheriff office, depending on whether you live in city or county. Fill out the form, get finger printed and pay the fee. You're done and go home. If yours has been expired for two years, I'm sure you need to apply for a new one, which is no big deal. The only difference is the renewal is a bit cheaper. Here in Kitsap County, it took 7 days for my permit to arrive.
It has been the court house only for so long now. Has that changed? I have a precinct in close proximity. I am, I hate to say, disabled. My back is broken up pretty good. Even riding in a vehicle is too much with all the bumps and G-forces of traffic.

^^^^That will get the job done! Years ago when I was a bouncer, we used 75,000 volt guns, and it did a good job, even on some rather large and ornery patrons.
The bigger and more muscular you are, the worse it affects you. The charge seizes muscle groups between the probes.

LE models also pulse at a higher rate, causing more nuro incapacitation. Civilan models pulse at a slow rate for a longer period of time, the idea being that a civilan can use it for self defense to flee from the threat. I dont know if they still do but Taser would give you a new Taser if you provided a police report where you left your Taser behind, fleeing from a threat you tased.
As for the OP, I wouldn't spend good money on one, get your conceal carry permit and spend the money on a new gun.

Agree. Been tasted twice in training. Takes the will to fight right out of you... but I wasn't on drugs ; so...
Cops don't deploy taser without firearm backup.
