Title: vortex rangefinder?
Post by: scoyoc5 on January 19, 2015, 09:13:53 PM
I'm in the market for a new rangefinder. I had a Leupold rx that had waaaaay to many settings for me to deal with so I sold it. I've been looking at the vortex ranger1000. Anybody have any experience with one? primarily will be using for archery.

Thanks, John

I have one. I like it. Really like the red display. I've had it since they came out and haven't had any problems with it yet.

Thanks Scott. One of the complaints i had with my old rangefinder was there was to much information in the viewfinder. All i want is the radical and the range

I think you would be happy with the vortex rangefinder. I recommend it

If you had the RX you'll definitely notice the vortex takes a second or two to range compared to the RX. Display is cleaner but not as bright and crisp as the RX. Minor issues but they should be pointed out. Vortex warranty wipes out all the cons. May consider a Leica also.

I bought a Vortex and returned it.  The time to range drove me batty and I didn't think the optics were great.  I know guys who love them I wasn't one of them.  The warr. is great, belt clip is a nice option it just didn't do it for me.

I picked up a vortex 1000 a couple of weeks ago. I really like it. Much simpler than the Rx. The time to range is a little longer. I don't think it will be an issue.
The warranty is a huge plus. I hope to never need it, but like insurance your glad when it's there.
The Leica was nice, but I didn't like the display.
The max range in the field that I could get on elk is about 700yds. Coyotes about 500yds.

I bought a Leica 1600b a season or two ago... Wish I had purchased the vortex instead.  The Leica doesn't compensate angle until 100yards I missed that in the fine print. Great rifle hunting rangefinder though

I had the Vortex 1000, sold it and upgrade to the Leica 1600-B. The Vortex is fine for bowhunting, or shooting rifles under 500 yards. In ideal conditions. If foggy or very bright out, the range drops even more. The Leica is quicker to range, ranges much farther in less than ideal conditions, better optics, and lighter weight. Not to mention the ability to measure the atmospheric conditions. In ideal conditions, my Leica has ranged trees out to 1800 yards.

I went back and forth between the Vortex and RX1200i. I went with the Leupy because it was faster and I could get longer ranges. Out to 1100 yds. I don't mind the busier readout and actually like having the actual angle displayed too. Both are good RF for the price.

I'm doing this exact comparison right now to replace my rf. planning on getting a leupold based on the reviews about lag on the vortex and you have to push button 3 times to range.

Warranty. Buy one you don't need to use it on. Go Leica. I've owned every model they made and never once needed warranty service.
