Title: Oak Creek
Post by: boneaddict on December 26, 2008, 04:20:39 PM
There are two fantastic bulls down in oak creek now.  I didn't take any pics, well maybe I took a couple of one of them when he was bedded down up on the flat now that I think about it.....anyway, they are two bulls that have been around for several years there and they just keep getting bigger.  One is a narrow bull with tremendous mass and size and the other is the big sweeping 8 point and his thirds are unreal this year.  I can get some pics for those that can't make it over, but the elk are coming in everyday.  LOTS of elk still up high though.

what are you part Indian Passion. ;)

I'll get some Ridge.  We came through when the crowd was through the roof.  I'll get some for ya.

The sheep station has more than I have ever seen there.  Also a ton of sheep NOT at the station.  I think they should think about increasing some tags.  There are ALOT of sheep out there.

I just hope all this snow doesn't contribute to a winter kill off like the '96 winter did.

The winter of 96-97 was devasting to these units 356-360-342-352 etc and particularly the deer herds.

Most of the snow in this area is less than a foot deep and a light powder.  Most of the animals are at the feeding station now only by habit, not by need.

Yes, I think he is so big and old that the wind needs to be let out of his lungs. Preferably by an arrow.

Everytime we are down there in the winter we go check out the elk and the rams, my kids are always impressed.

I make at least two trips a year.
Some times we will camp along the Yakima River (old river road) and go for a hike in the hills. Last year we watched a coyote chase  a couple of rams across the hill side. Unfortunatly i did not have my riffle with me, only my 40 cal. and no the rams did not get caught, they out smarted the yote's.

You know I love going to Oak Creek, but the people that go there never cease to amaze me :bash: :bash:. While I was there 3 people honked their horns on their cars :bash: >:( :bash: >:(. This may have been an accident but it still makes me mad. Then all of the little kids running around in the parking lot screaming trying to get run over  >:( >:( >:( :bash: :bash: :bash:. And the people that feel the need to shake the fence when your leaning on it to try and take a picture!!!! :bash:  :mor:.

People just don't get it!!!!!. They pull up get out of their subarus or priuses and say "Oh look at the Deers!!!, they're so cute." Then some cows start talking and they say "They sound like little kitty cats!!!".

But what really makes me mad was when some person was telling their kid how lucky all of these elk were to make it though hunting season. And how terrible hunting is! It was very hard to listen too.  :( :( :(

I am done with my rant. Like I said I love the place, but some of those people drive me crazy.

THere was a herd of hispanic kids running around there at about 3.  It was pretty dangerous and they didn't ahve a clue running all over screaming.  THe asthetics aren't very good for picture taking and enjoyment thats for sure.  Good place to see the bone that is out there.  That 8x7 has been coming back for several years.  He lives in one of the hell holes on this planet.  I accidentally found it one time.  He'll either be shot in the feedlot by some of the natives, or poached on the way down.  I doubt a hunter will ever claim him.
