Which Trailhead do you start at?  Dallas Rd. or Westcliffe?

He is probably asking because your location says "Enumclaw."

Oh. He must have thought I was pretty dedicated to drive 4 hours one way to do a training hike.

If you want to start a west side group (or join) LoJack, could you please start a separate thread to avoid this one getting hijacked? Thanks!

I've lived in try cities my entire life and have never hiked badger. I'd much rather hike where I can see more wildlife than people. Good offer though.

These are purely training hikes. Not as many areas to hike that are 5 min from my house that I can get equivalent training...

Maverick, you might want to reconsider.  The county has put a lot of effort into building up the trail system on Badger in the last few years.  Although Little Badger has recently become a neighborhood, Big Badger is still quite tall and empty (of houses).  The views are great.  Give it a try once, I am sure you will be surprised.

This next Saturday we will be meeting at one of the TC trailheads, either Candy, Dallas or HH.

Plan on upping the weight this week to 100 lbs but bring what you're comfortable with.

Timberstalker, you're a funny guy, I'd like to see that. I went yesterday, got there about 7:15, there were about 8 cars at the trailhead, by the time I got back the parking lot was pretty much full.  Went this morning at 7:00, and there were only 4 cars in the parking lot, weather was even nicer, but today was packless, I ran it with my dog.  I am planning to start running M, W, F at about 5:00 PM.

I've ran the road to the top of Jump off Joe a few times, but never hiked it.  Judging by all of the wheat fields surrounding that mountain, I wouldn't know another way to get to the top because of all of the "assumed to be private" land.

And Timberstalker, the Horse Heaven trailhead is on your left, about 400 yards past the canal on your way up McBee, there's a trailhead sign and everything, even a half-blind, doe shooting, wannabee like yourself should be able to find it.

Travis, Dave, and all, I know Travis is out for tomorrow (good reason), and Adam is out (poor excuse), don't know about the rest of you, but I'm going to hit the trail at 0700 instead of 0800, there'll be fewer people and will have less impact on the rest of my Saturday. I'm planning on running it again.

While I know from experience of hiking with you, that you are in excellent shape and could potentially keep up with me I don't believe you have factored in the below possible issues:
1. A possible hip fracture during your frantic dash to the top could end your entire career!
2. An amnesia attack.
3. Your depends could fill up

I feel like we may be headed towards are first annual Hunt - Wa Badger Mtn. Dual!

What are you guys doing for miles(one way) and elevation gain? The trail I do is 1 1/4 mile, 600 foot gain. It's the best I have close to home.

Never mind, think I found it, 2 miles, 1000 foot gain.

I read this website on Badger Mountain. They list "Elevation: Start 846 feet, Summit: 1582 feet, Total Ascent 1038 feet.". Guessing there is some up and down to get their numbers, or they have fuzzy math.

No, I live in Washougal. I hike the Cape Horn trail just down the road from my house. I was reading your reports of conditioning hikes and it sounded similar to my stuff so I was curios. I do 50# or 60# most times(bag of wood pellets and weight plates or gallon of water), but have done 110# more or less as a stunt (roped tractor weights and weight plates onto my pack board).

Good job, man.

I did a run on Saturday with family and friends along a Kennewick ditch, then on Sunday took two of my sisters up HH.  One farmed up there for 35 years, but had never hiked the trail.  When you drive the hill twice a day, there's less incentive to walk it.

Usually weighted pack hikes. Always for time. As long as Rouse doesn't come we should be good. Though its always humbling to have an old man whoop me up the hill!

Stalker, you are all mouth, you'll never show, because you know that even though I'm 20 years older than you, I'll still beat your ass to the top.  I'm hiking on Saturday at 0700, I know that Travis and Adam are out of town, I'll be packing 50 lbs for anyone willing to show and run something besides their mouths.

Dual!
Couesbitten Vs Timberstalker.
100# packs from Trailhead to Trailhead.  Round trip!

Seeing how I was all mouth last year, maybe it is time to pull this old post back up!  LMAO.  This is funny, I don't care who you are!

Haven't been able to run for about a month due to knee pains, but they finally are mostly gone.  I tried to run Monday morning, but immediately my sciatic started hurting really bad in my left cheek, so I only made it about a mile.  I've been putting in an hour on the Air Dyne daily and it doesn't hurt.  Neither does the bike commute to work, but I sure do hate these old age pains that are getting out of hand!!  I would like to do a loaded pack hike one of these days if you guys are in....Maybe Sunday morning before the Superbowl?

I'm out for a bit for the weighted hikes, as I'm currently frameless!  But I'm sure I'll find myself running badger Sunday morning.

Sorry to hear about your TMB syndrome Dave!

Title: Re: Tri Cities Fitness Hikes
Post by: lonedave on March 18, 2016, 10:25:44 PM
If you head through Kiona on Weber Canyon road about 1/2 mile out take a right onto McBee road.  Go another ~1/2 mile and the parking area is on the left.  There are a couple of trails that take off from there.  It looks like it may be raining, but hopefully not until later in the morning.  If we start at 7:00 or so, we should be back to the cars within a couple of hours, depending on what path we take.  Come on out if your around.

Haven't done it yet this year. It's just hard to want to do HH when Dallas Rd is 5 min from my house.

Excited to finally meet you!

To answer the other question I use 50 lbs bags of sand.

Thanks for the hike Silk. Sorry to have slowed you down. I did the Bethel side with my sisters afterwards and my hips were feeling it later. Weighed my pack: 67 lbs. Should have lightened the load before chasing after you!

And thanks for showing me and talking about the Hunter platform. That really helped my decision making.
