Having recently shared your frustration, I can relate. My recent experiences may help, as I know where you are coming from. I just bagged my first coyote yesterday, so I can offer hope to a fellow rookie. So here's the advice to go with it:
Watch any of the Randy Anderson Calling all Coyotes videos. They are full of advice, and you can see what can happen on a real, successful hunt. The one Big Difference is that you have to be very watchful for critters coming in. You won't have the camera to point them out to you. Watching is a habit, and it takes effort and practice. Hunting is not waiting. You may have called crtitters and not seen them. Correction. It is LIKELY that you have brought critters to your area, and simply not seen them. It happens to everyone, and for a variety of reasons.
Perhaps the biggest reason (IMHO) is that they will move to approach the caller from down wind. If they catch your scent, they are gone. The best remedy is to choose a stand where you can see a critter moving to get down wind of you. That can be a tall order, I know.
Hunting is better, now that there is snow to stress the critters. They are more likely to come to your call, and with snow on the ground, you may be able to tell if there are any canis latrans in the area you are hunting. Seeing tracks is believing! Hang in there.
Use stealth when taking your stand. Don't slam car doors. Move to a spot where approaching critters won't see your rig, if possible.
Wind is paramount when picking a stand site. A wind at your back is futility, but a cross wind is not too bad, if you can see downwind.
I also had to work on keeping my movements to the minimum, to avoid detection. I have limited flexibility and found sitting directly on the ground or kneeling very uncomfortable. I was fidgity, and that can't help the hunting. I ended up making a 12" tall stool that I sit on. I know it raises my profile, making me stand out a bit more, but I feel it is worth the trade off. I also dress warmly, expecting to be motionless most of the time.

and fc2038 i have lived hear my whole life and never heard of Skip Clemes and my dad has been here for 30 and he has never heard of him, and deer in centerville? very rare we have property there and i know 95% of the farms out there and you would be hard pressed to find a deer you must mean some were outside of centerville like towards high prairie :dunno:
