Has anybody taken any of their floater duck decoys and cut off the bottom of it to turn it into a shell and then stuck it on a motion stake for shallow water / edge of water. Thinkin about makin a dozen or so just curious if anyone else has done it

I think this has been done for years. $100 a dozen for field shells or $24 a dozen for floaters. A guy on CL was selling 3 dozen of these. They appeared to be hot buys from the pictures. I made 2 dozen hot buys into these as well. Just ran them through the band saw and purchased GHG replacement stakes.

I did this on some i bought from bi mart and they work great!

you don't really need to ruin a water decoy to use it in the field. Screw or clamp some legs to the keel or use a post setup for movement. the thing i see is that most water dec's have the same poses, ducks don't posture the same on water as they do on land, resting v/s active feeding, etc... so its about presentation.

Why not just rig a line to them and yank on them from your blind
