Title: Sun River Game Range
Post by: AntlerHound on February 06, 2015, 09:04:30 AM: Anyone ever go to the Sun River Game Range down in Augusta MT.. ?????Me and a couple buddy's went to the opener last year. We had a blast.. Learning experience too.. Will be there again this year.. Some monster bonez down there... Unfortunately we didn't pick any of those up!.... Beautiful place too.. I'll try to dig up more pics

The ranch HQ is on the east side of town, they have some irrigated hay meadows a bit of grazing up there. They have a lot more property down towards Bowman's. Some right good rattle snake hunting south of town.

When I left we (4 people) had 2 piles of antlers that were 5x12x4 feet high, if you know where to look you can find dinosaur bones also.

I've heard that the gas companys have developed the area is that true??

Sheds were already picked over by someone who didn't wana follow rules.... But it was good time... I'll be there again this year... Here's a bone a buddy picked down there last year...

as an out of stater traveling over to shed hunt on 5/15
curious and may combine my idaho deer scouting trip with a side trip to the game range

1) Do you need anything as far as a permit or pass to get in and dry camp ?
2) ATV restrictions passes or permits ?

Really anywhere youcan get with one you can usually get a truck there. There is one area that going down hill u woudlnt attempt if its been pouring rain like last year. I gave up and turned around. Still not sire how I didn't get stuck.

After they open the gate you'll shed hunt and then when you feel like it move your camp on to wherever you want. Its beautiful country over there and you're going to love it! As long as the wolves didn't push the herds out like last year you should find some sheds.
