Title: Ruger American Predator.
Post by: HUNTNORTHWEST on February 11, 2015, 01:29:04 PM
I recently purchased the ruger american predator in 223.
I have seen poor reviews on the gun and decent reviews as well.

I have a ruger american 22lr and one thing i noticed when comparing the two
my 22lr barrel is floated three times as much as my predator. When looking at the very end of the stock towards the muzzle.

the stock is nearly touching my barrel on the predator leaving me concern of how its going to shoot
i have not had the chance to get out and shoot it yet.

Any thoughts on this?

Shoot it and let us know what you think.  I am about to pull the trigger on a Ruger American Youth .243 for my daughter.  Would love to hear what you think about yours.   Everyone I talk to says they are a great deal for the money.

Ya ultimately thats what i need to go do. But if its shooting like garbage
then my first suspicion is going to be that stock then I'm stuck with figuring out what to do
to fix it.

Shoot it. I have the predator in 308 and it shoots great. Every load I have put threw it from super sonic to sub. Has been 1/2"-1".

I load for my friend's RA Predator in 243. She keeps  her shots  under an inch with or without the suppressor. I've shot it as well, same results. Waiting on the lefty version to get my own.

My grouping was pretty much exactly an inch at 100 yards and i was squeezing off shots great.
I was nervous because of some poor reviews on the web but those guys either suck at pulling a trigger or got lemons.

The actions is smooth for the price and trigger is decent also. Now i need a suppressor.

Did you get a proper break in with cleaning after each shot the first ten, then work your way up from there?  Makes a huge difference even if it's only a plinking gun.
Start throwing rounds down range with out the cleanings on a new gun will take away from it's accuracy. It's a PIA to do, but pays off later.

jrebel, I bought one for my daughter a while back and another in 7mm-08 before that. The 08 shoots incredible and all indications are the .243 will be a good shooter also, only have about half a box through it. Just try cycling some assorted rounds through it at the store before you buy, some don't feed well with some ammo. I had to swap the 08 because it would not reliable feed any of the good ammo I wanted to try in it. If your daughter wants to try one out and you are in the neighborhood I have couple and a 300 yard range out back.

There were a few issues with the original magazine that gave some users feeding issues. They have fixed these problems from my understanding. I have not had any problems with any I have or have sold through my shop. I think I read on another site that people called them with there problem and they sent them a new magazine. Not sure if it's true. It might be worth a shot if you have any issue with one of the original mags.
