Guys & Gals,
Help me out here. I have something very specific I want for my kid..cant find it yet it seems so damn obvious to me.
I want a very small (think cricket or savage rascal) rim fire preferably in 17hmr over 22 for accuracy beyond 50 yards.
12 inch length of pull
under 35 inches overall length ( under 30 pref'd)
around 3lbs without a scope but drilled and tapped for a scope.
Mag fed not true signle action. (box mag or external box).
I figure there has to be a weapon readily available that perfectly prepares a kid under 10 years old for a big game weapon system....
no?
please guys...tell me Im retarded and of course there is. :bash:
something that my undersized 7 year old kid uses on small game until time to switch out for a youth 243 for deer and the transition is perfectly seamless....?

Have a Cricket or what ever re-chambered for 17 mach2, There is a guy in Virginia that does it for around $150. I have his contact info if you want it, PM me.

Even the cheaper Savages are really good shooters. For the price it wouldn't be a sin to cut-down the stock some. :twocents:

Well it doesn't fit your bill 100% but fairly close.
Ruger American compact rimfire. 17hmr if that is what you want. 35.75" overall/12.5" lop. Mag fed like you want. The weight is a little more but close to a real hunting rifle weight at 5.4lbs
Perfect training gun like you are looking for. When they are ready for big game get the American centerfire compact in whatever flavor of cartridge fits your liking.

You can get this set up in .17hmr, .22LR, .22WMG. I purchased the .22WMG for my son. Great little gun. I ended up topping it with a Cabelas caliber specific 3x9 w/ BDC.

My first thought was a CZ Scout, but after looking, they're only available in .22lr. The mag fed 17hmr is the hardest part. Lots more options in .22. Closest I can get you is Marlin XT-22YR. 7 shot mag fed bolt .22, 4lbs, grooved, drilled and tapped, 33" overall, 12" lop. Run you right around $200, maybe a tad less. If you're willing to do without the mag, you can get much lighter and shorter .22s from Henry, Crickett, and Mossberg.

Little heavier than you want but a marlin 917 int 17hmr was one of the best rifles I never should have sold. Mine was a vs but they have lighter versions
